Oh no! Help! Male kitten "matured"......

I found my male kitten, Ash (5 months) trying to mate with my female kitten (4 months) this evening

They're both booked in to be done on 18th December but I'm not sure I should leave it another week!? Well I'm certain I shouldn't but I don't know how booked up the vet is and won't find out til the morning........

I can't risk him starting to spray everywhere :(

Does anyone have experience of this or any ideas of what's best to do?

Will he start spraying imminently now? How does it work?
I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

  • Spraying ought to be the least of your concerns: he's unlikely to start spraying overnight however one single sexual encounter might lead to your two kittens becoming three or more! :-D I would call the vet tomorrow and try to get an emergency appointment for your boy. They can neuter below the age of six months so, provided they have space, you should be able to get him done now. To be honest, if they don't have space I would try another vet. Four months may seems young for your girl to be impregnated but I believe it's biologically possible.
  • I meant to add that I would keep them separated tonight to be on the safe side. It might seem a little OTT but much better to be safe than sorry!

Cats can become pregnant from as young as four months, its rare, but it happens. Unless you've been watching them 24/7 she may well already be.

You need to get her to the vet asap, she may need an emergency spay, and keep them separate until one of them is neutered.
  • Thanks both! Will keep them separated.

I'm pretty certain he's not been successful yet but I don't want to take the risk.

our beebs starting spraying at four months and it took me a day to realise what the absolutely foul smell was, you will know when he starts spraying

i had recently laid new flooring in all rooms and it happened the same day we had visitors unfortunately

i just remember thinking, and saying, what the hell is that smell

i actually thought it was sewerage under the house and i would have to take up all my new flooring lol, it doesnt smell like cat wee, it does smell like something from the sewers by the way, we got our beebs done a couple of days later, the vets should be pretty accomodating, keep your cats separated as others have said

She wasn't having any of it! There's no way he got close enough even though he tried. She lay, bottom flat to the floor and then rolled over to scratch his face to get him off.

    On the occasion you witnessed...

At least talk to your vet just in case, you don't want her having kittens at 6 months.

cleaned up quite a few times ok because once you clean and disinfect etc, they spray again dont they ?

i knew it would happen sooner or later but nobody told me how bad it would smell ! beebs was fine after the operation

when we got lily and jess we knew jess had been done but lily...

    ombg !

when we got them both lily was quite vicious and we knew she hadnt been done so this was kind of a priority because i dint want her leaking so to speak

about a week after we adopted her she came into heat

being quite vicious for such a small cat, my partner abandoned three attempts to get her in her cat box and take her for her appointment three days running but when she started howling all the doo dar night, he was told by the vets over the phone how to pick her up and put her in the darn cat box

i really dont know how cat owners who own queens or undressed female cats exist, to be honest i would rather have the enfield poltergiest living with me, no offence to the hodgson family intended

thats not an invitition incidently but the noise and behaviour was more than uncomfortable

shes fine now, really lovely natured, purrs on your lap, gives you kitty kisses on demand and does party tricks for dreamies
