Prices of next-gen games

I picked up Assassins Creed 4 today from GAME. £22.49 for the PS3 version, but it comes with a code inside to upgrade to the PS4 version for another £9.99
Pretty pleased with that, and a clever way to get you to upgrade ie "it's only a tenner more for next-gen goodness. Give me some of that". Of course, it relies on the last-gen versions to be sold cheap. The guy in GAME didn't know about the upgrade, but was saying they were flying off the shelves since they halved the price.
I'll be looking out for similar offers on other cross-platform titles0 -
You could buy a PSN voucher if you're scared of hackers etc.0

Physical copies are on the way out - Microsoft tried to make it so this generation, but got a backlash.
It's like me with TV/movies. I haven't faffed with a physical disc for about 5 yrs. All downloaded online or transferred onto my Popcorn Hour.
I suspect we'll be able to transfer digital licences soon. Creating physical discs is pretty mad in this day and age. (Assassin's Creed example excepted of course as it ended up working out £15 cheaper ;-)0 -

I would say it is completely the opposite with a number of the most popular games. Call of duty single player story is generally ok but the multiplayer is the reason most people play it. Battlefield single player is not as good as COD and again, the majority play it for the multiplayer.0 -

If you buy the game via download then it will be available to you if your console dies or there is a serious fault as you would be able to download it again as it is linked to your account.
If the price for downloads drops to be a decent bit lower than physical media then I'd definitely buy it but they would need to find the correct price point since you can't sell it onwards.
Customers will adapt, in much the same way music lovers have. How often do people buy CD's anymore compared to digital downloads? It must be easily 5+ years for me since I last bought one and that was most likely as a gift.0 -
As a consumer I really look forward to console games being digital only as it does make it easier when shopping around as there will only be one place to buy. The prices will be fixed so no need to worry about getting any bargins, and as a bonus the companies retain control of releases (as they should it is their ip after all) so I can lose my bought games at any time. I nearly forgot there will be less choice as there will be no imports.0

Has there ever been a case where a company has suddenly decided to stop you using a downloaded product? Who is to say that download codes would not be sold on other websites, very much the same way Microsoft points or xbox live membership, both of which can be found much cheaper than the price on the xbox console.0
