Firstly there aren't many second hand games in circulation yet, and secondly the market is tiny so the publishers are not going to sell many games on these consoles for a while. Both of those will improve over time I imagine.
That's the biggest thing when you get a new console now, unless you can package deals with points there is very rarely any offers straight away. I got the PS4 on release day with one game, I simply can't afford to get another for some time now after having to fork out an extra £50 for a controller.0 -
The thing is £45 is not too bad for a next-generation console game given the massive development costs.....however that is less the case with straight conversions over from previous models which are less value for money.
If you compare say Fifa09 with Fifa14 on the PS3 - the difference in quality and gameplay is massive...... but both games are subject to exactly the same hardware limitations. My point is that it will take designers 3 or 4 years to really start expoliting the full potential of the PS4 which is technically streets ahead of the PS3. In the meantime, a conversion game such as Fifa 14 for the PS4 is really not that much better than the PS3 version.0 -

I understand videogame development costs have gone up, but as I was saying to my brother yesterday, I don't think I'd even consider paying £47 for the likes of Assassins Creed 4. It's just too much money.0

Development budgets have gone up somewhat, Rockstar allegedly spent 265 Million dollars creating GTAV which is well into blockbuster movie budget territory.bluenoseam wrote: »You've become accustomed to pricing structures initiated by supermarkets.bluenoseam wrote: »Next generation you have to factor in increased costs for development, with Xbox you have to factor in the fact it's a bluray disc.bluenoseam wrote: »I doubt we'll see significant drops from £50-60 for a while yet, simply put it's too expensive for these games to be made because of the demand of gamers. After all, none of us expects regression with technology, we're a demanding bunch & well, improvement costs money. Besides, think back on it, PS1 games were £40+ back in the mid to late 90's which by the time you factor in inflation would translate well into the £80+ range by now.
so was never aware of the actual cost of games whereas now I buy them retail I'm more attuned to the costs.
I was really disappointed that Microsoft dropped the downloadable/DRM style of gaming as I think that offered real potential cost benefits for both the publishers and consumers, in fact the only people who would have suffered would be the retailers.
As someone else has mentioned, I have a massive Steam collection (100+ games) including some of the latest titles and I would estimate the total cost to only be around £100. It's only the social /entertainment elements that keeps me coming back to a console.0 -
Yeah that is probably not a great amount. This could actually prove to be nice as compared to the other options available.:rotfl: movie786.com/0

What? Ps3 and Xbox 360 games were 39.99 when they came out, they are only around the 29.99 mark now as the consoles are 7 years old and the next gen is out, 39.99 is and always has been the going rate for a new console game
44.99 is a little more agreed, but as mentioned above, N64 and SNES games used to cost 59.99 or so, so with the rate of inflation over the last 10 years, you could even argue they are a lot cheaper0 -

i have a few megadrive boxes still with £39.99 on them...eep!
I'm showing my age here, but I can remember when £17.95(!) was exorbitant. That was back during the ZX Spectrum's final years, but it was still awash with cheap games. It seems that home computing platforms are still relatively cheap, or at least there are lots of deals on Steam; I wonder if the new Steamboxes will prompt a general reduction in prices of console games. Unlikely but hey.
I mean, I can understand paying £65 for GTA. It's deep. But endless revisions of FIFA and variations of COD, sheesh.0 -
