Hi Guys,
thank you for all your posts as they are very reassuring. my boiler is a 4 year old barsi. it cant handle the 15mm centrol heating pipes so we never used it for heating the house, we just used it for hot tap water. but now the heat exchanger is blocked, i was told it is because i never used the central heating... if we use the central heating and a tap at the same time then the divertor value breaks as the 15mm pipes cause too much pressure and the water can't get away fast enough...... so i've phoned a local plumber again for a quote so I can get the job started. glad to know i can get the whole system for about 2 to 3k. .... much more appropriate, considering BG charge 3k just for the plumbing.... how the hell do BG stay in business with theae extortionate prices???0 -

Everyone has 'favourite' boilers.Because most of my customers are on a budget I have used 2 middle price range boilers which offer 5/7 years guarantee if annually serviced and fitted on a clean system.(Described earlier) Ideal Logic plus and Baxi Duotec.Ideal have had a bad reputation but this is a good boiler and I have had no issues with it.All RGI have their own favourites.Personally I find Worcester over hyped, lots of plastic and not the easiest to work on.Essentially any system is only as good as the installer.Good luck.0 -

A very odd situation. No heat for 4 years? Who installed the 'barsi' (Baxi? Biasi?)? Have you ever had it serviced?
It appears from your last post that the 15 mm pipework has caused serious problems after all.

First of all it's only 4 years old and you say it "can't handle the 15mm pipe".... who/what gave you that idea??
Sounds to me like the whole heating system was not installed/upgraded properly in the first place. There should be a bypass in your system (not just the safety bypass in the boiler, you shouldn't rely on that for your heating system) If there was an issue with the 15mm pipe to the rads then it should have just bypassed back to the boiler. it shouldn't have been killing your system..
Sounds like you need to get in a good independent local plumber and have the whole system looked at.0 -

I dont for one minute think its the boiler cannot handle the pipe size, either now or when installed!
I think the problem now is with the lack of use of the heating and the valves have become seized and there are water flow issues due to that and the heat exchanger being blocked , and the problem is down to what is IN the pipes, probably sludge and magnetite, and unfortunately you have made the problem worse now to a point that you will probably need to do the replacement
Out of interest was the pipework installed at the same time as the boiler?Signature removed0
