Paying shortfall Class 2 NI Conts / ESA

Hi Guys
For anyone who is interested this is indeed possible. I have paid the 'missing' class 2 NI contributions from the tax year 2012 which fell into my bankruptcy. The Official Reciever gave permission, I sent the cheque and letter to HMRC asking they apply the amount requested by them to make up the shortfall as 'late' contributions as opposed to any other type i.e. class 3, and they have done so. I forwarded their letter of confirmation to the DWP and asked them to re-look at my NI record and today I have received confirmation that following the 6 week sanction for the NI contributions being 'late' I will be paid contribution based ESA. So as a self employed person if your record has any 'holes' in for the assessment years you can pay these late and, after the 6 week sanction period imposed by the DWP, be entitled to up to one years contribution based ESA. I really hope this helps someone as it has taken me quite some time to navigate to this outcome.0
