  • You do realize if you buy a 4x4 you will go to eco-hell. Go for the biggest one you can afford :D
Nothing to see here, move along.

Get a Pajero, best car we have ever owned. Would not be in another car with kids, your high up and behind two tons of metal.

Unfortunately the people you run into are low down and in front of two tons of metal.

Says the man with a series 3 Lightweight as his avatar ;) (and a very nice one too btw)
As for Landrovers... if you roll them then you're not likely to walk away unless you've installed a roll cage (and trust me on this... I used to offroad them and lost a friend in an accident!) so not really all that safe unless you're in a head on... and even then you're not always in the best position... they don't have much in the way of crumple zones to absorb the impact and chances are you'll walk away with internal injuries but your car can be driven away from the scene...
If you want to keep the kids safe then get something with a good safety rating and now "a big 2 tonne 4x4" - if you need room for kids, dogs and luggage as well as kayaks etc then a Volvo estate with a tow bar would be far more sensible :)
We have a 4x4 because we live in the country side and the roads in and out of our village are often flooded... this is a hassle in the MX5 (another reason to change it) and means my OH has to give me a lift to work before heading off himself...
Have to say that when the time comes then I'll be happy about putting my kids in the Santa Fe... I'd feel they were safe as well as it being fairly practical... (and it does 37 miles to the gallon diesel)

Your eyesight must be good if you can see how good the lightweight is from a piccy this size.:D .

Its only a 'fun' vehicle and for all practical purposes my Pug 405 estate is a better bet.

You don't need a 4x4; you need a 'people carrier' like VW Sharon etc. There's more room, faster, cheaper to run, safer and you won't lose all your friends.

Get a Volvo Estate, big safe and comfortable.

Mine is 11 yrs old, 222000 miles and still going strong.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

    If you want a smaller 4 x 4, you could go for the Fiat Panda 4 x4 https://www.fiatsupasaver.com £6795
