Do you own your own home at the moment? If so, maybe let it out for a year and rent near Lincoln and see how it goes. Doing things in small steps will make it less stressful a processGather ye rosebuds while ye may0

This and this.
I don't know the specifics but I've got friends in Lincolnshire and it's such a pain to get to see them (and my godson)! The rail links are soooo frustrating, miles from anywhere reasonably central.Tough times never last longer than tough people.0 -
I live in Lincoln.
Nice places to live would be uphill Lincoln. You'd be able to rent a nice 3 bed terrace within walking distance of the cathedral within budget. Avoid ermine and st giles areas even though they're uphill.
Nice villages with good facilities close to the city are north hykeham, saxilby, cherry willingham, welton, nettleham.
Welton and nettleham are a bit more pricey due to school catchment area.
North hykeham very big, has a railway station, plenty of buses, supermarket and other shops.
Saxilby is smaller than hykeham but still plenty of shops, dr surgery, hairdressers, hourly buses and a train station.
There's other nice villages such as branston and washingborough which I don't know as well.
Transport links are getting better. Direct train every day to London. Not far from Newark and the main east coast line. The a46 to Nottingham and beyond is now a dual carriageway. Lincoln itself is terrible for traffic, no full bypass. Getting across the city can take a long time. They are supposedly going to extend the bypass so it will be on the cherry willingham/heighington side of the city. Look at plans online to make sure you don't rent a house which will end up been next door to a big road in a few years time!0 -
Glebe park in uphill lincoln also an option. Plenty of bungalows and generally an more "elderly" population. Close'ish to a small asda and a large waitrose. Plenty of buses.0
