Help needed with possible move to Lincoln area.

My wife & myself may need to move, in 2014, to be nearer family for more support as we are not getting younger. It will be a case of renting a home at a budget of no more than £600 & we are looking for general help.

So anybody that knows Lincoln & its suburbs & surround villages may be able to give me some advice.

Is Lincoln a nice place to live & what about the nicer & less nice areas. Ideally we want to be no more than a few miles from the centre.

  • If you have family in the area I recommend you ask them about places that would be right for you to live. They'll know not only what you need and want, but also what the areas you're looking in are like.

  • Lincoln = nice place
Very flat and boring countryside though
    terrible road and rail links,

Nearest family quite a way off now but son moving there early 2014 & at this stage we don't want to add to his stress of new house, new area & new job.
  • I think possibly you need to think through this decision a bit more. You don't feel right asking your son for advice now because of a new job/house move etc but want to move there for increased support from him in the future? And there you say there are no other family/friends there.

    1) If you can't ask a question like this of him.., it suggests that even when he's more settled, you might feel awkward asking for support
2)If no family or friends there.., might you have more support where you live now?
    3) There is no guarantee how long your son will live there. By the time you need support etc, he could well have moved again. So you've moved for nothing.
    4) Has this been discussed with him at all? How does he feel about it.., can he offer you the support you want?

I am not trying to be nasty.., but am trying to get you to think this through logically. From your original post, there could be some problems in the future.

    ????

I lived in north Lincolnshire for 18 years and the wolds are hilly and beautiful with lots of pretty villages!

I presume you mean south Lincolnshire?

Don't know Lincoln well enough to advise on areas, but I do remember ermine and giles areas being a bit rough, but this is going back a bit...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Gawd it's so bloody confusing?
  • Well Lincoln City Centre has the steepest hill up it ever! Parts are flat down South Lincs, but towards the Wolds it is lovely.

My wheelchair has a Power Pack (electric motor) but I'm not sure if it would cope with steep hills :rotfl:
  • The wolds are indeed lovely but Lincoln seems so out of the way
