Are BAA trying to mislead Boots' Airport Meal Deal customers?!

Recently went to get Meal Deals at Boots airside at the airport (my kids suggested it actually - such is the success of that particular long-term promotion).

Hey! What happened to Meal Deal? No signs or shelf labels or even sandwich labels mentioning it at all!

Resigned ourselves into thinking Meal Deal must be over, but made a casual remark about it at the checkout...then quickly dashed back to collect all the extra snacks and drinks we needed for Meal Deals!

Meal Deal is very much alive but mysteriously BAA have apparently demanded that Boots remove all the signs. BAA take a commission on the sales.

Funny that?

It may be Boots rather than BAA policy not to put the signs up, as I noticed the same at Newcastle Airport - no meal deal signs. Newcastle isn't a BAA airport.

I assumed that the meal deal wasn't available in airports but sounds from your experience that it is, but just isn't publicised...

    I have an enquiring mind:)

PS But it seems from what MarcD says, that it might not just be BAA. More a cartel type wheeze?

You won't find meal deals before security because the liquid regulations, airside I'd assume it's the cost of having a shop

as to what a meal deal is - it's a sandwich, sweet & drink for about £3. If you've ever been in a Boots you can hardly miss them

Probably due to complaints from the other caterers that have the concession at the airports. They pay a (high) percentage of their revenue to the airport authority as concession rent. In return for that there are strict contract terms, some of which relate to who can sell what.
    Not even wrong

I noticed this too, when I had to ask at Stansted if they were still doing the meal deal. It's £3.29 there now, whereas at High Street branches, I think it's still £2.99.

OH MY GOD! I've been on to my MP about this and he's looking into it as a very urgent priority. I'm so glad I read this thread.
