    Hi Matt,

I looked around for a modem/router for ages but couldn't find anything that's compatible with VM unless you buy from their online store.

In the end I gave up as I can't justify the cost.

Have a look at this link.

It was priced at £99.99 which is why I didn't buy it, now it seems very cheap

You can pay as little as £20 for a cable wireless router. They just plug into your existing box. I don't know of any that can be used for both Cable & ADSL but at the price why worry

Just google "cable wireless" and ignore the "Cable & Wireless" results or go to somewhere like Ebuyer who have a specific category for cable routers

If you want a cheap wireless router to use with Virgin cable broadband, this is a good price:

For cheap ADSL routers, DSL Depot normally has some bargains:

Both links are for refurbished routers but I have bought items from both companies and they were fine and looked new.

    Thanks

Why oh why do you want/need a router thats able to use both? You trying to load balance over 2 WAN Connections? If you can afford 2 WAN Connections you can afford 2 routers :P

Any DSL router will work with VM cable broadband and as far as I know any ADSL modem/router will work VM ADSL broadband. You certainly don't need to buy from their shop.

I got a reconditioned Netgear from the US off ebay to use with Telewest cable and it works fine and was very cheap.

This is what I use, although mine is the older silver one

So that if you change your provider you don't need a new router?

I did similar a few years back as I had a NTL contract that was to expire in a few months and was switching to a BT one. Moneysavingexpert is the website, 2 routers isn't.....

A DSL/Cable router will work on both Cable and DSL/ADSL hence the name DSL/Cable router.

These don't have a modem built in, you use your current modem, with cable this is supplied. With ADSL you probably don't have an ethernet based ADSL modem, more likely the el-cheapo USB modem, you need the Ethernet based modem, however these are more or less them same price as a combinded ADSL modem and router.

It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Couldn't have looked very well, there have been cable/dsl routers on sale at various retailers online and on the high-street for years.

However you won't find a cable modem and router combined, you must use the current VM supplied modem and attach it to a the router.

Any dsl/cable router will work with ADSL as long as you have an Ethernet based ADSL modem to go with it.

As far as I'm aware a cable/DSL router will indeed route either cable or dsl but not cable and dsl..

i.e it only has 1 WAN input??
