amex refused

in Credit cards
hi everyone.
I own a barclays bank account for almost 4 years and a barclaycard for almost 1 year.
I wanted to apply for the platinum everyday cashback amex, the one with no annual fees.
In the application (online) I didn't put my landline (I typed my mobile instead) and I didn't put my employer details (I put I'm a student instead). In addition, I've recently moved and I put I'm living at my current address for less than 3 years.
My application has been refused - Do you know what can i do now? Re do the application?

Are you a student? If not why did you put that?
You cannot do anything about the address - you have to be honest.
If you've recently moved then that will affect your application.
You would have been better off aplpying before you moved.
Sorry - but my honest advice is - accept it and don't make any more applications for a few months.0 -

Yes I am a student but I work as well.
Do you think the main reason for their refuse is my new address?0 -
I would guess that putting you were a student would be a big factor in them declining you.
Do you meet their income criteria? (an annual income of £20k between you and your partner (if you have one)).
How recently did you move? are you registered on the electoral roll at your new address? and does this show on your credit files yet?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
If you've recently moved, did you not put the previous address if less than 3 years?
As a student, what income did you put (if any)
I think it may be the income and address history that declined the app.
You could appeal and write to them asking them to underwrite it manually in case it was a system score decline.0 -

Yes I meet their income criteria - I am a student but I also work full time.
I moved 9 months ago and my new address is registered on the electoral roll.
Not sure about my credit files (sorry!)0 -

Yeah I put my previous address, but it was less than 3 year that one as well.
I put my income (more than 20k) as I work full time as well.0 -
AmEx typically are seen as one of the harder cards to get. If you look at their marketing materials to merchants to persuade them to accept AmEx it all talks about the fact that their customers earn 1.6 times the salary of Visa or how much more their customers spend than other card issuers etc.
You may have set yourself a fairly high bar to get over with declaring yourself a student and by the sounds of it not the longest ever credit history etc0 -

Yeah I regret I didn't put myself a full time employee.
What do you suggest me to do?0 -

Just out of curiosity, why did you think Barclays would be more likely to give their premium product to a student than someone in full-time work?
I'd assume you can't reapply for another 6 months. Your best bet is probably to apply for a cashback card elsewhere. Assuming you haven't got much of a credit history, the Capital One Classic Extra might be a good place to start.0 -
01273576576 and select the option for application queries. Give them your application reference number and ask if you can appeal their decision as you think it was based on incorrect information.
There is nothing to say that they will change their decision but it can't hurt to ask.0
