Tried to cancel Sky but is this true....

Hi

Can someone help please. Rang up for the 2nd time today to cancel our Sky package as sick of paying ridiculous prices when theres so many deals out there. The most they could offer me was 20% off my tv package so ive decided i still want to go ahead and cancel it all.
The operator told me that if i cancelled my phone line i would have to pay for reconnection when i set up with new provider, is this just a con to get me to stay with them? surely it wouldnt cancel until the 30 days are up anyway and everything would be in place by then?
thanks in advance
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to post comps

Depends who you go with? If you don't have an alternative yet then Get looking and check what they advise the connectivity costs are.

If you just cancel your broadband, you will be charged around £30 by BT Openreach.
You may have to pay a new provider a provisioning fee.
You should obtain a MAC from Sky, then give this to your new provider who will pick up the BT OR charge.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Uncancel the broadband cancellation, and obtain your MAC, then use it within 30 days.

So in obtaining the MAC from your current ISP to goto another ISP that avoids any re-connection fee etc?

In most cases it allows you to migrate your broadband from one provider to another with no disconnection/reconnection.

A MAC allows you to migrate your broadband from one ISP to another on the same line without an OR cease charge being applied.
If your new ISP levies a connection charge, then that is another matter, and open to negotiation.
Since the line itself is not being reconnected, a reconnection charge is not relevant.
