Order to dismantle an outbuilding

Hi

I need to do some proper MSE`ing , i have a knackered old lean to , with poly roof ,no foundations , single glazed , failry big , runs the length of a standard 3 bed end of terrace , goes out about 2.8 meters , carpet on floor , and chipboard under that , under that i believe could be flag stones , but wont know just yet

I have had all power terminated to it , so its dead now , what i need to know , is the order in which to dismantle , should i start from the roof downwards , and if so , what is the best way to removed window frames complete ? , gaffa tape the glass in a certain way first before ripping out ?

Any advise needed!

Cheers

Out with carpet, will make cleaning up quicker, shovling/sweeping a hard surface.

Remove windows first, glass and frame together, 'gaffa tape the glass' thats something you have to make a judgement call on.
With care and wearing gloves, I haven't in the past.
Off with door, then tackle the roof.
Brick , take down with a large hammer
    Timber ?
Then destroy the rest, an old shovel used at the corners often works .
If it is pulled down with in its on footprint , easier to contain mess.

As always you start from the top and work down,

The key is PPE (personnel protective equipment), Don't worry about breaking glass, you really are likely to do that.

Remove crap from floor from time to time, makes working easier.

And above all, have someone there to help take the strain and finally call 999 if it goes tit's up.

That comes over scary, not meant to be, but, if you plan that way your demolition will be eventless;););)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I will need to get a length of guttering as well as the house guttering has been rerouted to feed along the lean to into the waterbutt

  • No further advice to add Dan, as it's slightly different to when we demolished our *20" thick* stone outbuilding, lol! Just wanted to wish you well though ;) Have you decided what you're going to replace it with yet?

Try advertising free hardcore etc on Freecycle, Gumtree, Local ads etc.

People will take away almost anything if it is free and that could save you a few hundred pounds if you need one or two skips fewer.

Be careful of anyone from Freecycle etc helping you with the demolition bit as, even with the best of intentions, they could damage your house or make an insurance claim against you if they injure themselves.

Best to wheelbarrow it to the front of your property or kerbside and let them take it from there.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys , our massive garden shed we dont wnat is being freecycled as well , but i will take it down myself as the point about well intentioned help that could have consequences is a good one!

Turns out that my 2.8 tall patio doors being fitted today as part of our house renovations cant fit into the lean to , to be able to go into the external wall , so my builder is having to rip out some sort of access anyway , so at least i get a head start!

Phoebe ,nothing other than a patio as it stands , we have run out of money for anything meaningful because of the kitchen and bathroom so on the bright side , we get to extend our garden by nearly 3 meters! , to be honest the worry of the state of the lean to with rotting timber and poor flashing to the wall (along with almost impossible access to be able to repoint some of the area under the upstairs windows) means altho it is extra space being lost , its at the very very lower end of `valuable space` , plus we intend to be here at least the next 10 years
