Non stick frying pans

At the weekend I decided to go out and buy a new frying pan from the cuisinox range. But I came home empty handed because I couldn't decide between a normal based pan or non stick. Does anyone know the advantages and disadvantages of one over the other??
thanks

thanks

one is easier to clean then the other!! :j
but non-stick are thought to have toxins in them, that you shouldn't cook certain food types in them - not that I can helpfully remember what they were though....I hope someone here does though!!!
non-stick also shouldn't go in the dishwasher
non-stick scratch when used with metal things/or stacked incorrectly
non-stick you don't need to use much/any oil
non-stick still sticks if you burn stuff on it :rolleyes:0 -
If you keep birds then I am sure I have heard that you shouldn't use teflon coated pans anywhere near them as it kills them...
Wonder what it does to humans then......0 -

Won't be long. I hope

For everyday frying I have a cast iron pan. It's heavy and has short cast iron handles so it can go in the oven. When I first got it, it wanted to go rusty and I had to wipe it with oil as soon as I'd washed it up. After a few uses, it just needed drying thoroughly although I think I should oil it if it's not going to be used for a long time.
Anyway, it's now non stick, just needs a smear of oil even for eggs. I think it's good for you too because some of the iron leaches into food especially if you cook with tomatoes. Not for everybody but it was cheap (can't remember how much) has lasted years and will probably last a lifetime.0
