Be careful that TalkTalk don't get you on a new 24-month contract for phone & BB !

Hi all,

I have TalkTalk phone & Bband.

TV is with Sky and am currently on a 50% discount.

My deals with TalkTalk & Sky expire in a few months time.

Got a phone call from TalkTalk yesterday offering me a free Youview box with no increase in my monthly subscription. They would send me a self-installation guide to get it working. After a few questions, the sales advisor confirmed that, if I took this free service, my phone & bband services would be on a new 24-month contract. I immediately declined the offer as I will be looking to move next year either onto BT bband to get their Sport or onto Sky if they offer me a deal for the BT Sports channels. It depends on who offers me the best deal.

I thought that I would share the above as it did take a few questions before it came clear that TalkTalk were trying to get me on a new 24-month contract.

HTHs.

The YouViewbox costs around £200, so the contract has to be long enough to earn that back. Nothing is ever 'free'.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Suprised your offer does not reduce the price.

They have reduced the Essential TV package to £7.50 a month so that investment would be £180 over 24 months.
I believe the box is "valued" at £150 now.

It's a shame you have to take line rental from some companies.
If they did free BB then I'd be interested but as I currently pay £15.50 a month for 30Mb fibre then it's hard to get a deal that matches it.
