So a heater was bought at the beginning of winter, then returned in the middle of spring!0 -

I told the lady that even if they didn't refund me, they were going to keep the thing. There was no way I was having something back in the house that I was too scared to use.
They refunded with no quibble anyway.
and yet you kept it quite happily in the house for 5.5 months until the warmer weather came along0 -
Why not? every shops have some rules and regulations regarding returning their products if it seems faulty piece. Go to the store if you think faulty, and they will exchange your products with the newer one.0

Why not? Because the OP was happy to keep it and use it for 5.5 months, despite posting the below comments.Gingernutty wrote: »However, as it is, I'm too worried about the warming plug and cable to use it much, if at all, let alone leave the room with it switched on.Gingernutty wrote: »I understand that it may not be faulty. Where has OP said they've been using it since their earlier posts?0 -

The op obviously needed a heater during the colder weather. The op hasn't added that another heater was purchased at the start of the winter which they were happy with. On the basis of that I'd put my money on them using the thing for the whole time.0 -
