Well done on getting through all the decorating El, but hope effects of fumes aren't with you for too long, try to have a complete day off everything soon!

Excellent news on uni course! Even if you're not 100% about it, it's good to be in a position of having choices! All the best to you, whatever you decide!

Yep, getting to uni will give you options, there's still no doubt about that with a relevant course, good for you. Sorry to hear about your friend, 170 is a really high rate :(

    Hey everyone :)

Thanks HBB and KC for writing :)

Yep uni is going to be a challenge, just another on life's bumpy road lol

Well finally we are getting there with the house, the floor looks great, the furniture is back in the room, we just need to find the tie backs gloss the doors and clean the house and we are back to normality, I can't wait to get my husband back, I've missed him these last few weeks, won't miss the ball of anxiety that has taken his place but hey ho it's just what happens I spose.

Have paid my notion wide money into the mortgage and Tilly tidied some money over as well, I feel that with everything going on we have had to slow down the efforts, and that's ok as the fires are designed to save money long term etc.. But part of me is chomping at the bit to pay off the debt, also part of me is chomping at the bit to save towards retirement, I'm slowly thinking of ways in which to keep us dark tax for the year, but I think if I add in the mortgage and any amount paid extra we won't be, so they are conflicting in that sense, but as long as thy stay our focus I think we will manage.

    Hope everyone is good :)

Remember that paying off debt is the other side of the saving for retirement coin. Every penny of debt repaid is a penny (sometimes several pennies, in the case of a mortgage!) that you won't need to save for in future :)

Optimising the balance between debt interest and investment return is an important consideration.

This is very true Ed, it's all heading towards the same goal at the end of the day :)

Did a very rough SOA today ( well yesterday now) and I think we might manage to squeeze a wee £100 off the mortgage, it's not a lot but every little bit does help and add up :)

We haven't had a finance talk for a few weeks now due to being up to our eyes in the house, but I mentioned to Mr El before I left for work that we needed to have one, just thought it would be good to give him a heads up about it.

I am thinking of giving Mr El £90 out of the wages,£40 for him for work and £50 for our treat money, I tend to just give him money as and when he needs it but I have noticed that his work spending is slowly creeping up, last month was £70 and the fun money we keep for us has been so over budget that it passed budget before week one was out, now I have spoke to Mr El before about these two outgoings suggesting we put them up a bit as we are spending a lot of money but he repeatedly said no, so I'm thinking, hand Mr El £90 on 15th and say that's your work money and fun money, that has to last us till next pay day, just to see how he goes, I think I will also have to reiterate that that's it, there is no more and stick to my guns

I think it's very easy for Mr El to shut off from finances as it tends to be me that deals with them, and when he needs money etc I tend to shuffle money around and not pay things I want to ( maybe extra to mortgage etc for example), that's not to blame Mr El in anyway as I have as much responsibility ( if not more) to ensure the smooth running of the finances, I've also noticed when Mr El has been given money before he tends to be more cautious in how he spends it, so I think it will work out.

Now that we have turned the corner with the house ( just the BIG clean up operation left to go) I can once again turn my attention to food prep and the garden as well as excercise, I going to start introducing once again the meal planning and this time I think I will add portion control into the mix, this Should have a two fold effect, more health due to smaller sizes ( weight loss) more money due to portion control

It feels good to be getting back to homeostasis :)

I like the idea of experimenting with Mr El's spends - thats your lot till next payday! Makes me think of my mum and dad - she took care of the money, like you, and when he brought his pay packet home, she'd give him two halfpennies, so he had coins in his pocket!

Same here El, you either had a very late night or an extremely early morning!

Hope you're able to get some kind of rest as you finish off putting the house back to rights and that you get a bit of gentle garden time in too!

Have you made a final decision about uni yet or is this tickling the back of your mind whilst you're meant to be sleeping?

Here's wishing you an easy Sunday if you can ;)
