Hello all. Quick question. 6 1/2 years ago had to go bankrupt (long story but mortgage shortfall I wan not aware of coming back to haunt me) on the advice of the CAB/National Debtline. The bankruptcy will drop of my credit file in July next year (6 years after discharge).
I'm at a new address now which is not linked to the old one (I've checked all 3 CRA's & no linked addresses). My bank a/c is an online only a/c linked to my old address-it's a basic a/c-I have NO credit at my current address (just a payg phone). I'm not on the electoral roll either. Now I AM on the Council Tax register. Also my car is still registered at old address (although obviously insurance company aware of move). Also I do pay the electricity/gas (but was told this was a 'soft' search & doesn't link addresses???!). I have no intention of getting credit again.
I'm applying for a very good job in the financial sector giving advice etc, & I'm not sure if they will credit check me. Can a company doing a credit check on you search the Council Tax Register/HMRC??? I'm pretty sure the DVLA can't be searched willy nilly. The thing is there is NO credit information showing at my new address as I don't have any?
Also-my sister received a threatening letter from a DCA (the debt was included in the bankruptcy-they are now aware of this)-is there any way any of the scavenger DCA'S that collect ancient debts (all of which are included in the bankruptcy) can 'find' me via the above methods-& create a 'link' to my new address?
Any answers would be great & thanks for your time.

BR should have left your files 6 years from the date you were declared bankrupt.
If this is on your files, it needs to be sorted, and sharpish.
I have a former BR on the team that handles a lot of cash, who was perfectly honest about her past and the circumstances, so if you haven't built up debt again, it's certainly not going to be a definite no.
The staff member in question had also worked for a bank following discharge, before she came to us.💙💛 💔0 -
Ok thanks! Thats confused me....as Co-Op Bank say its 6 years from DISCHARGE date?? Will deffo try & get a free copy of my credit files. In fact my basic bank a/c is tied into that address! I could always try one of the free trials-but would have to tell a 'white lie' that I'm still living there???
Edit-just checked on Experian & it should have dropped off....but Co-Op are saying there is still 'adverse' info on there??? Clearly there shouldn't be any adverse info on there??!
Edit edit-maybe indentity theft??0 -

You need to get info from Experian, Equifax and Callcredit (Noddle is free always, you'll need card, but this is only for security, and I didn't get billed in years.)
I haven't got time now to get these links, but Google will find them.

Update! Guys/gals-called Equifax (I have a monthly a/c with them)-explained situ & a VERY helpful Rep ordered me a paper copy to be sent to my current address=WITHOUT linking it! Checkmyfile.com said they will send me a Call Credit one free....just need to contact Experian. & Equifax said the DON'T use DVLA/Council Tax/HMRC. Will update as to what I find. Equifax have said that any wrong info will be deleted within 28 days. Might put a notice of correction on there in the meantime-what do you think? Or.....would that highlight the fact there were 'issues' 7 years ago?0

Council Tax details aren't passed on to credit reference agencies.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

They might not credit check you for your job application but they might ask. The usual question is, "have you ever been declared bankrupt"
It might not affect you getting the job, but you need to be honest about it if they ask.0 -
Equifax will link your address. Now you've given it to them. They have to report the data you've given them. They're known for being wrong anyway.
It shouldn't matter anyway as it should be off your files. It will cause you more problems in a financial check that you seem to be "hiding" and haven't updated anything.
Then there is the fact if they ask "have you ever" which is likely. Never lie, they will find out, as it's a matter of public record.
Best advice to you is, sort your files out, stop running away, get everything to your current address and be honest.0 -
Tinkerbell28-no-they won't-the 'link up 'is if I apply for credit, etc & put a previous address. CRA'S hold information given to them by banks, etc, they don't amend files-only report facts that banks etc have given them. besides-checked this morning online & nothing linked.
I'm not 'running away'. Fact is-there should be NO adverse on that address-ulness information is incorrect or if someone is using my identity. It's not a matter of public record-it drops off your file after 6 years & is no longer on the insolvency website OR the London Gazette (I've checked). Whilst I appreciate your contribution what you've said is wrong. I used to work for a debt charity so i do know what I'm talking about.
I also checked 'live' on my Equifax file this am (the rep generated a new report yesterday whilst I was talking to her)-so this is again an updated report from yesterday-NO linked adresses.
The choice of 'being honest' is MY choice-not yours. Fact is the Insolvency should not be anywhere (if it's still on old adress in error can get it removed pretty fast by contacting the IS) in public sight or on a CRA. Methinks you're a little on the wind up lol0 -

I think the only person on a wind up is you. Bankruptcy is a public record, you aren't searching properly. It is searchable for LIFE. Even after 6 years. There will more than likely be adverse if you have not cleared up your files.
When you update your address with a credit file agency, of course they then update their records....it will take time to show on line. They are bound by the DPA to report accurate data as they are given it.
If your post was merely how to hide a bankruptcy and lie about it if the question came up, then good luck.
Don't come crying when you get found out and end up with a CIFAS marker on your file. Which happens if you apply for a job in finance and are found to be lying to gain employment.
I think it's extremely worrying you worked for a debt charity or maybe being paid to give this information out to vulnerable people. It's totally inaccurate.0 -

;-Please read copy & paste from the Equifax web site-
What is CIFAS information?
CIFAS is a fraud prevention service, allowing a subscriber to CIFAS (known as a CIFAS member) to place a warning at an address or addresses where fraud has been confirmed, assisting to protect innocent people whose names, addresses, or other details, are used fraudulently by others in order to get credit.
I am not trying to get credit. Bankruptcy is a public notice. TRUE-but the IS does NOT post every Bankruptcy order or BRU/BRO on the London Gazette site (where the public/debt collectors etc can browse freely). The Bankruptcy order is off the IS web site within 3 months of discharge-FACT. Any BRU/BRO is taken off that register within 3 months of the end of the order. Also-in certain cases-where people may be vulnerable/not want their address known (violent exe's-loan sharks etc)-the IS have at their discretion the option NOT to make it a public record.
Also-by the way an employer CAN'T put a CIFAS marker on your file as you're not getting credit from them???!!!!!!!
Also....addresses DON'T have to be linked. lets say you move from one adresss-& don't apply for any more credit bank/ac's for say 4 years. On an application for Credit it often says 'if less than 2/3/4 years please give previous address'. So-if you open up a very basic bank a/c (as I did)& it says 'adresses if under 3 years' & you've been their 4 then you have not lied???? In fact (not that it's your business) I opened a pre-paid debit card bank a/c -no questions about 'have you been bankrupt' at all.Hows this being 'dishonest'??
Also-if you have access to your credit file online you can update it daily-any linked addresses (& if Equifax thought it was dodge they wouldn't be allowing me to order a paper copy & get it sent to my new address??!) are imput straight into the computer-but only information provided by LENDERS. Again as stated the rep I spoke to said the adresses would NOT be linked.
So-your facts are not correct. Hope this enlightens you a bit.
One thing I did discover though.....the IS say its 6 years from date of DISCHARGE-where as equifax state it should drop off 6 years from the date of the ORDER.
Will make my own judgement call on the BR (probably will them but as it was over 6 years ago & NOT on any public record they can't find it anyway)-thank you though for your concern & advice.0
