As I said before, I didn't believe that he didn't have a paypal account to start with - I just think he said that to avoid having to pay paypal charges. Let's face it, if it WAS a scam, what difference does it make having to pay a few quid paypal charges when you're making £150 for doing nothing? However, if it's a REAL transaction by an honest person, those few quid make all the difference if you're just trying to recoup what you've spent.0 -
Buy from the ticket outlet source directly, or buy real legal unwanted 3rd party tickets with some comeback then- join up to Stubhub ...
Just could not believe that you and your hubby planned to give a complete stranger £150 odds (that is a big wad of money)bank transfer for fictional concert tickets, have you even spoken to them on a landline phone, have you got their address? Have you got the reservation number to verify it is real with ticketmater, or have you ever heard of a letter of authorisation ? I DO know what am talking about! And yet despite there being hundreds of dedicated pages on the web warning people about doing this very scam ,personally , I can't understand it myself why you would ever consider sending them money, it's nuts! Maybe you got all annoyed cos someone showed you the error of your ways!NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0 -
Why don't you email him from a different email address and see if he tells this 'new' potential buyer he doesn't have PayPal?
You could even engineer the situation where both your personas are offering to buy, if he's legit he'll be honest, if he's scamming he'll be after the money from both emails!0 -

I was annoyed because I'd already stated (at least twice) that I wasn't going to send any money UNLESS he made the transfer via Ticketmaster and I received confirmation from them (which I would then have followed up with a phone call to double check). There was no need for you to re-iterate your point over and over as though I was a naughty and stupid child.
If you re-read my original questions, it was how do you go about paying for tickets when they haven't even been printed yet - as is the case with most events. Tickets are sold all the time online - as are millions of other items - and there is always an eliment of trust with anything you buy from Gumtree/eBay.
As soon as I discovered that I wasn't covered with Paypal's guarantee when buying tickets, I gave up on the idea. As disappointed as I am, and as much as I will always wonder if this wasn't a scam and I've missed out on great tickets, I'll be happier not losing over £150.0 -
You'll all be thrilled to hear that I've bought some tickets via stubhub.
They're up in the Gods and I'll probably have a nosebleed, but at least I should definitely be there and wont lose my money.
(Incidentally, similar seats to the ones the guy on gumtree was selling were going for £300-400 each, not the £85 he was asking).0 -
I'm in the same position too. Help! All tickets for this event sold out instantly. For weeks I have been searching. And now I've found some on gumtree. I'm also worried about paying etc but I really want to
Go to this event. There are none on Stubhub I've been checking everyday! Hmm....0 -

Gumtree is a face to face platform. For CASH on HAND OVER transactions.
Is the ticket there? If not. How happy will you be losing that cash as you will have ZERO comeback.0 -
So if there were any to become available on Stubhub and PayPal don't cover event tickets then does anyone know how this would be paid?0

I would be intrigued to know if we were looking at the same tickets on gumtree.
I have already received (via email) the tickets I bought from stubhub. I would definitely recommend. You can pay them either with a debit/credit card, or via paypal. It's stubhub that provide the guarantee, not paypal.
I'm thrilled that I can wrap up legitimate tickets for my hubby for Christmas.0
