What makes you love (or hate!) an Advent comp?

Options
What things make an Advent fun or memorable for you? Conversely, what turns you off?

For me, my favourite things to see are:
  • I want little boxes or windows on a festive background to click on for each day of the month! Is this so much to ask? When a company just does a facebook post or tweet per day, it just feels like an ordinary rest-of-the-year comp! :p
  • Prizes that work together as a theme. This isn't so much about value of the prize as to see how the group of them work together. Lovehoney has a good example of this with their 12 days of Christmas - 1st day is 12 inexpensive prizes, 2nd is 11 slightly more valuable, and so on until the last day will be one highest-value prize. Silentnight also is doing this with snuggly sleepy themed gifts.
  • Instant Wins! I've never won an Instant Win, but there's still something so satisfying about clicking and waiting for the 'Sorry, try again tomorrow' message. :D
  • Playing a game or answering a question.

Things I don't like:
  • Don't have some days be offers instead of prizes. It just makes you look cheap! Give me an offer after I enter, and I'll consider it.
  • Having to sign in every day to enter. Can't you remember me?
  • Prize sets that are way out of scale. Today a PS4, tomorrow a 5 quid candy packet. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather see a full Advent of moderate prizes than one that jumps around.
What about you? What makes you like or dislike an Advent?

I hate the Advents that don't open their doors until mid afternoon!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I think yours are the same as mine!

I just want nice little windows to open. That is all I want. And a simple form that doesn't break rafflecopter grr.

And like BlueBella says, doors should open at midnight please! :D

I also don't like the ones where the prize is a 'mystery' until after you enter. (I'm looking at you, Whittards. Some of us are just after the hot chocolate.)

Oh yeah, I don't want to enter for a mystery prize. What if it's something I have absolutely no use for? I'd rather the winner be someone who is thrilled to get the prize, not someone who is going to flog it on ebay.

I also hate it when companies on Facebook post things like (and I quote from the What's On For Me Facebook page): 'Winner picked 9pm tonight! Keep sharing!'

Yeah right - and we'll keep liking and sharing till we get banned by Bah Humbug Facebook :(

partly due to the huge amount and partly just what i prefer i like simple advents where its just open and fill in email or name and address
i hate advents where you fill them and then in all the fog of advents you just see at the end have to collect in person so then you wait in dread to see if they pick you!
like most folks hate it when some comps dont open why cant they all open at midnight?
also those which at the weekend they dont update or open
one comp i hate anytime is why do you want to win this prize?
pma positive mental attitude counts for everything:D

Anything that asks me 'What's your favourite christmas carol/movie/food etc' or 'Who would you share your prize with if you won?'

It's my opinion that 97% of Facebook users would sing Fairytale of New York with their mums
    Comps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%

I loathe that song & (un) luckily my Mum is dead so I can't sing it with her, mind you singing is not a family talent either - I've been banned from singing if anyone else is in the house.

I love advents that are quirky - like the pringles on & hate the comment ones

Hahahaha that would be me then! :o
I really DO love FONW, can't help it being the best Christmas song ever and lots of people obviously agree; and the reason I usually put my mum as a "share-ee" is that I'd be really embarrassed putting my best friend's name or anyone's name for that matter, and them seeing it! At least my mum isn't on FB so she won't know!

See, now I just want to try and guess your favourite Christmas movie as well :D

    Scrooged? ;)

Tell you what I DO like, not being bah humbuggy for once - that Christmas octopus. Found him for the first time last night and so far he's my favourite :)
