    I've been Money Tipped!
She doesn't use the computer much because she can't get in a comfortable position to use it, although she is on Facebook, but never logs in. She can only use her wheelchair for a limited period, otherwise she is in bed. :(

If she has any money to spare then she could get an ipod touch or iphone for Facetime using wi-fi so no call charges - I think there are similar apps for other phones.

She could do that from the comfort of bed :). I did when I was recovering from surgery and couldn't travel - I could still 'visit' people which made me feel less cooped up.

    How difficult, SDW.

Just thank her very much and suggest that she donates any more clothes to her favourite charity shop, as you have far too many clothes, anyway.

I was thinking the same as above poster....a smart phone that works with Skype/has a camera or perhaps a tablet with a camera? She could double the tablet as an e-reader and should be a lot easier for her to use - even in bed. Could even put it on a breakfast tray if she struggles to hold it.

Not sure how lavish you are with gifts, but you could possibly either buy one if that's within your price range or talk to her about phone/tablet and see if that's something she wants to do, if it is....you could then send her money as the "gift" to put towards the phone/tablet so more affordable for her too.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • She relies on her son to do everything like that for her and he is often too busy. I will suggest it to her however :)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

It made a real difference for me. I was cooped up after an op and was in no condition to travel to friends or relatives.

We'd arrange to 'meet up' for coffee and would see each other on the screen - have a chat, dunk biscuits and generally you forget you're not in the same room.

You can see a new hairstyle, a new wallpaper, see the pets or children or whatever... technology is a marvellous thing (and now I know I'm getting old :o).

I'm not techie and I managed it - it really could help her feel less isolated.
