Travel insurance covering hire car excess

I am planning a trip to Australia and will be hiring a car. Apparently Australia is unusual in that the insurance provided with a hire car has a large excess (several thousand dollars). You can pay upfront to reduce this to a lower level, but this is expensive. I notice that some travel insurance policies specifically exclude anything to do with motorised vehicles. Can anyone recommend a good travel insurance that WILL cover me for the large excess I would have to pay if my hire car were damaged?

I have used these guys as a separate policy to cover car hire excess as an alternative to the hire company's damage waiver

The only downside is that you pay the excess & claim it back from them, that may be an issue for"several thousand" AUD0 -

This isnt unusual but standard to anywhere outside of the USA, its what the CDW you pay each time you hire a car is.
You are going to be better off getting it separate from travel insurance and there are a number of companies that offer it. Limiting yourself to only providers that do a combined policy is going to be too restrictive and very possibly is two separate policies behind the scenes anyway.0 -
