Baptism Certificate

Dear all,
I do apologize if this question is posted in the incorrect section.
1) Is there a difference between the baptism certificate given by a Catholic or Christian church.
Anywhere in the certificate mentioned that religion is catholic or Christian?
2) His child is 7 months+ Can he be baptised? He said some of his work colleagues has done it when they were adults.
Background info for the question above?
One of my friends who is from a non Christian/catholic background is interested in enrolling his child to a catholic church as many has recommend catholic schools are much better than the normal schools? To enrol him to a catholic school he said its required that the child has a baptism certificate and also a letter from the priest that child is actively engaged in church activities.
But he said its easy for him to speak to a Christian church priest and get it done than through a catholic church.
He doesn't mind his child get educated in a catholic school environment.
Thank you in advance

You do know Catholics are Christians, don't you?
To answer your question, yes.
A Certificate of Baptism will state the church where the baby was baptised (big clue there), the name and title of the priest who baptised the bubba (the title Father or Fr. is a big clue) and sometimes include a plug for the printer.
I've just dug my Certificate of Baptism out for you to answer this question and, at the bottom of the page it reads
"Turners Catholic Press".
If your friend is hoping to pass off any old certificate of baptism as a Catholic one, he's onto a loser.
A Catholic school will also reach out to the churches he says he goes to and ask for references from the parish priest and/or Sunday School teachers.
There are that many chancers out there, that getting a kid into Catholic school is like getting a job.
Yes, you can be baptised at any age, but he'll have to explain why he's getting it done so late - he'll have to have go through the Catechism himself so as to bring Junior up 'properly'.
I've just read your post again - your friend is going to ask a non-Catholic minister to lie, say he's a Catholic priest and write a fake reference??!!!
Good luck with that! :rotfl::huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
He will need to take the child to mass most,
( if not every week) as the school will ask. It's not as strict here in Scotland as there isn't as high a demand ( fewer people) however I have relations in the London area who are catholic as are their parents and for them it was even a hard task getting them into a catholic school nearby. Being christened as a catholic wasn't enough, you had to be an active member f the clergy and explain why you wanted your child to attend a catholic school.0 -
Hi,
What I meant in the above post is that, if he gets his baptism done through a Christian church can he provide that certificate to the catholic school when enrolling. My friend didn't know about any reference to the religion mentioned in the certificate
He is already going to the catholic church with his kid and priest has noticed them and had a small chat with them.
He has told the father he is not catholic but priest did welcome him to join as a catholic but he didn't mention anything about my friend's kid.
Do you think if he requests from the priest that he wants his kid to be baptised, the priest would be ok with it.
As I mentioned earlier my friend doesn't mind his son grow up in a catholic environment, join the church and engage in church activities. In this way even the priest knows that child is actively engaged can even if the school request he can provide reference.
Thank you0 -
Before a Catholic Church will baptize his child your friend will need to be baptized himself, hence why the priest is taking an interest in the father. The priest will not be OK with just baptizing the child.
If your friend goes to another Christian denomination and has the child baptized he will not be a Catholic, he will be whichever denomination baptizes him.0 -
I can't help thinking that there should be a little more to a desire to be baptised a Catholic than simply liking the look of the local Catholic school. Seems rather self-serving and disingenuous to get yourself baptised for nothing but your own benefit. That's not really the point of being part of a religious community."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I don't think the fact he "doesn't mind" his son being a catholic is really the point. He has to WANT himself/his son to be a catholic. The fact he just wants him baptised into any old religion is a clue to the fact this is a really stupid idea.My Debt Free Diary

I don't think this is right.0 -
If your friend's as daft as you and thinks that Catholics aren't Christian, it's a more stupid idea than it seems at first glance.0

I think the OP is bunching together CofE, Methodist etc as generic "Christian". But, Id think for a catholic school the certificate would have to be from a catholic church.0
