Phone Acas - i think if you've had a letter stating your hours then you are still protected by law where they have to consult with you and get any hour/wage reduction agreed in writing with both the employer & employee
I might be wrong but there's no harm in trying them.0 -
It does look to me like he is trying to force you out.
I think his intention is to make you resign.
In your position I would be specifically investigating if an employer is allowed to cut someones job down from full-time to part-time. I know part-time employees can have their hours cut, but I would have thought "a full-time employee is a full-time employee is a full-time employee" and the employer should either keep the job as full-time or make you redundant (eg if they don't require as many hours).
Personally (whatever the law says on whether he is allowed to do that or no) I would be writing him a letter (quoting my contract in it if possible) and stating that I am a full-time employee and work 43 hours per week and giving them the choice as to whether to either keep my job as it is OR make me redundant (on the grounds that there is no longer a full-time job there).
I wouldn't resign (as he obviously wants).
I wouldn't accept being changed to part-time.
The only way round is to insist the job is either full-time or gone (ie because he has made you redundant).
You cant resign, because you wouldn't be able to claim benefit for some weeks if you do so. If you are made redundant, then you can claim benefit right away.
No point in trying to hang on in there to this new part-time job...as he will only try to make further attempts to get you to resign (eg by reducing your hours even further). He is probably planning on reducing your hours all the way down to only a few hours a week if you cant be conned into resigning. So might as well force his hand into making you redundant now.0 -
I would suggest you need to be careful. You have only been there a short time and your employer can dismiss you at any time.
It seems you have no respect for your employer, possibly with good reason, but that too is irrelevant.
It is time to move on.
Your objective should be to leave on good terms with a reference. In the meantime, I would suggest you keep your head down try to be a good employee. Try coming in early and staying a few minutes late.I sent him an email from the office at 4:57pm!!!"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

You haven't been employed for more than 2 years and as such you have very limited legal protection here. You need to be very careful and not threaten in anyway or he can literally just say you are not needed, or you are not working out as he hoped and dismiss you.
With regards to making financial cuts - it is a legitimate suggestion, but to my understanding of what you have said he is also hiring someone else to work alongside you. Do you know if this is full or part time? If full time and exactly the same job role, you would have some degree of leverage within ACAS and possibly court action, but I say limited. You are more likely to find another job role which would suit you better within a different company I'm afraid0
