Letting Go

It's perfectly normal for him to want to go back to mum: All our foster children, regardless of the poor level of care from their parents and their recognition that life was safer and more comfortable with us, wanted to go home. All you can do is be supportive and help him to achieve his dream with your blessing. Encourage him to visit you lots and keep on with the love and support even though he lives elsewhere. You can keep some spare clothes at your house, so run his other stuff through the washer when he visits, give him a good meal, bath if he needs one and send him off with a nice packed lunch for the next day. Text and phone often and carry on being the same loving, supportive family you've always been. If you make sure he knows the door is open, he'll be happier about using it if the need arises.
It's very tough for you and you'll worry a lot, but it's his choice, and you know you've helped him immensely. He can't help wanting to go back - he's programmed to want that, but if he knows you're still there for him he'll be in a better position. He may be back, or things at home may have changed, but you've done your best for him and he'll know that.0
