Our goal is to post up information on work undertaken in the House of Commons that has a consumer focus but which may not be highlighted elsewhere. We encourage discussion and comments concerning the topic or content of the debate.

Statement on Energy Bills
Monday, 2nd December around 3.30pm* in the House of Commons Chamber

The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change (Rt Hon Edward Davey MP) made a statement on the Government action on household energy bills.

The statement related to the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s announcement on energy bills which can be read in full at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/govt-action-to-help-hardworking-people-with-energy-bills

How it works:

Oral statements are made after Question Time (or at 11am on a Friday) and after any Urgent Questions.

Statements normally relate to matters of policy or government actions. At the end of a statement, MPs can respond or question the government minister on its contents.

How to watch:

The Statement was streamed on Parliament TV and is available to watch after the event (Silverlight or Windows Media Player required to stream Parliament TV): http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Player.aspx?meetingId=14272 [start time: 3.34pm]

The official Hansard written transcript of the Statement is now available at http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmhansrd/cm131202/debtext/131202-0001.htm#13120212000002

*This was the first statement due on the 2nd December, and was followed by a Statement by Alistair Carmichael MP on the Helicopter Crash in Glasgow.

The Statement on Energy Bills took place in the Chamber of the House of Commons yesterday with MPs questioning the Secretary of State on the points raised following the conclusion of the Statement.

The transcript and video of the Statement and questions are now available (see the links in post #1).

We hope this might be of interest to some MSE'ers.

    Thanks
