I have been told to keep items of a low value with Amazon.co.uk, rather than sending them back. I really don't think there's anything untoward going on. It's less hassle for Amazon, they're not losing too much money (considering the cost of return postage, handling these, etc.) and it inconveniences the customer less.

    That's what I thought too.

By the way, this documentary is worth watching if you shop at Amazon:

Warehouse operator moans about having to do some work shocker.

At least they didn't have to work in a massive freezer part of the warehouse.

I think what happens is you add an item to your basket either by accident or you decide you don't want it. But when you login weeks later and place an order you don't notice it's still in your basket.
That is probably the most logical explanation - I have done this occasionally when I have put something into my basket instead of my wishlist.

Another poster said they had thought they had used Amazon since, that may be down to having more than one id. I have separate ids for each business I own (a real pain but it makes the accounts easier).

I have never had Amazon place something in my cart that I had not ordered though.

Makes sense as they would only have to pulp the book or pay to ship back to the publisher who would pulp it or offload to a discount company for pennies in the pound.

not only that but when things go back they often can't sell them as 'new' as they don't know whats happened to them since they have left the warehouse so they could well end up throwing it as well as refunding the postage so it could cost them more in the long run. I once worked for someone and if an item broke then they were told to keep it as it can't really be sold on again and nothing else can happen to it really so saves them money in the long run

What is the Sports Direct fee mug scandal? I've had several of these, I didn't find it scandalous at all, I just took them to work for my colleagues.

Why does she not just check her "My Orders" page? If she ordered it, it'll be there. If not, it won't.

The scandal was that some people were claiming the free mugs weren't free as they had been charged for them even though they never asked for them. There was a thread on here about it a few months ago. The mugs (and a magazine sometimes apparently) were added automatically and had to be manually removed to avoid being charged.
