That is a mad amount to have defaulted on - its mucked up your credit file for 6 years so paying it off will only help marginally. Did you not see it coming? If there is any half decent excuse to try and get rid I would try if I was u
Mad amount you say my other half was defaulted for £27 :mad:0 -
You may have a case to answer here, regardless of the answers given previously. I'm assuming you have refused to pay call charges made from South Yorkshire and South Africa and not to these places?
You need to write to them and contact their complaints department quoting any reference numbers you currently have towards your case. Ask them for a complete itemised bill for the time in question including months prior and following.
Look through this list and highlight what time and date the calls were made. Bearing in mind the quickest you could realistically swap between the two places is 10 hours.
If the evidence backs you up then you need to write to their complaints department again and ask them to refund all charges made against your account. This can be proved in the following way:
16th June 23:00 you called from South Yorkshire
17th June 10:00 you called from South Africa
18th June 08:00 you called from South Yorkshire
Obviously it is highly unlikely you would have made the journey during the times above.
Without the actual information it's more difficult to give you a more definitive answer.
Lastly, if this was still going through a dispute process they should not have added the default. You do need a letter of deadlock from them if they refuse to process this any further and this you can take to the Ombudsman for mediation0 -

Actually no, I disagree with this. What is to stop companies making erroneous charges to an account for you to pay and them to collect interest on. A dispute should stop that from happening.
What I would suggest is that you refuse to pay the disputed amount and pay the undisputed amount0
