very.co.uk and the Black Friday Galaxy Tab "deal"

Options
Hi

Did anyone else here see the Galaxy Tab 3 deal that very.co.uk had on offer for Black Friday?

£129 for a Tab 3 16Gb, reduced from £279 for one hour only. Too good to be true? Under normal circimstances it probably is, but it was Black Friday when a lot of extraordinary deals are offered. It was also on HDUK.

It seems that quite a few people ordered (me included), some having had money taken from their accounts/cards (me included), but Very are now in the process of contacting everyone who bought one to tell them their order has been cancelled.

So what was it....genuine pricing mistake, or a devious ploy to entice people to sign up to Very and order this and other deals for Christmas?

Judging by the hammering they are getting on their Facebook page, most people seem to be going for the latter. I bought mine having spoken with a CS rep to confirm the price first, so I know what my opinion is.

Either way, it's a very bad practice and there is an e-petition here for anyone wishing to express their opinion about the way Very seem to have operated in this instance (it asks for a donation after you have voted, but you can just close the page at this point and your vote will still be counted)

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/verycouk-should-honour-the-sale-of-the-samsung

Is this a wate of time? Well Very's T&Cs have them covered, so they are under no obligation to honour the deal, but M&S did something similar with a TV deal in the past, and after some pressure, honoured the deal. So you never know.....we could strike a blow for the consumer

Thanks for reading

Sign as many petitions and post on as many forums or Facebook pages as you like.

This has happened before and will happen again and there is nothing you can do about it.

Very doesn't do stock control. They most likely had only 5 or 10 set aside for that price, and just allowed how ever many to buy it. They do this often, and will carry on doing it because it's their "systems". You only need to google to find lots of thread regarding stock.

The money is taken because the process is automatic. Frankly I'd not even bother with very for any special offer, the odds are so slim to getting one, especially when they're spread around the various deals pages. They consistently come up as the worst (imo!) regarding deals and stock control.

As a one-off I'm willing to believe it is just a mistake. If the same retailer were to repeatedly make that mistake then it becomes more likely to be intentional.

Whichever it was it's resulted in nothing but bad publicity for Very from what I've seen, but then I guess no publicity is bad publicity.

    Great, well done.

You still won't be getting it, Very have already made that quite clear.

As I'm sure M&S did initially...

Of course Very are going to say they won't honour the sale - it's going to cost them. However as the link above proves, it is possible for those who don't have a defeatist attitude to get companies to shift their position.

If it doesn't work, I've lost nothing. If it does, I get a great deal on a tablet. But I'd prefer to give it a go, rather than convince myself it is pointless and do nothing.

I'd have thought you would be better off NOT encouraging loads of people to sign petitions, keep campaigning etc. If most people just give up and acccept that they aren't going to get anything, then it's going to cost Very a lot less to quietly give in to the few who continue to keep pestering / complaining etc.....

Just had this email from Very...others have reported receiving it too.

    We're really sorry...

    Dear xxxxx

Just a note regarding your recent order for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Intel Dual Core (Item Number 3TJDJ).

As you may already know, on Friday 29th November due to an inputting error the Samsung product you ordered was showing at an incorrect price of £129.99 on our website. By mistake we used the price for the 7" Tablet instead of the 10" Tablet - meaning that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 wasn’t showing at the correct price of £269.99.

Initially we decided to offer a discount of £20 off the £269.99 price for any customers who had ordered on Friday whilst the pricing error was live on site. However, following chats with some customers over the weekend we have decided that under the circumstances we will honour the incorrect price of £129.99 - on the basis of a maximum one item per customer.

If you requested to cancel your order over the weekend because you didn’t want the product for £249.99 we hope that you’re still happy to receive the item at £129.99 and so we’ll still pop your order in the post. Please do let us know ASAP if you would still like to cancel.

We understand this may have caused a little confusion or inconvenience and so we’d like to offer you a £20 discount voucher to be used on any future order made before 31st January 2014. Simply use the code xxxxxx at the online checkout from the 3rd December 2013.

We’re trying our absolute best to get your tablet to you as speedily as we can, but please allow 10 days from today for delivery .

    Yours Sincerely

    xxxxxxx
