We are an innocent third party in a motor accident

...and besides that they have never actually offered us the amount that was on the cheque. The cheque just arrived, no explanation, no covering letter, no phonecall, twice.0

Cash it as interim payment and push forward for the rest,
As long as it has no covering notes stating full and final.Be happy...;)0 -
What's the make and model of the car?0

............Ultimately if you don't accept what the insurers are offering then you will have to complain and escalate to the FOS.

No. Ignore this.
Your ultimate option is as previously posted (#2) going to court over this. The FOS won't intervene over this (the third party insurer has no contractual or regulatory obligations to stick to when dealing with third parties).0 -
...and another thing to add to my rant...all of you guys that are asking logical questions of me to try and value our car.
Answer this...if you think all of the information you are requesting is relevant to the value of the car, why in two months have the insurance company never made the same enquiries?
Spacey2012...thank you...THANK YOU! I think you have nailed it and answered my original question. Kind regards to all respondants.0 -

I'm guessing that, unlike us, the insurer already knows all the details about the car that they need to value it, things like make, model, mileage, condition etc so doesn't need to ask.0 -
Why won't you tell us the make and model? Is it because the valuation is correct and you don't want us to know? Seems very strange that you won't simply tell us.0

How much mot is left on the car (whatever car it is) OP? if it runs out soon you may have to spend money to get the plate off it.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Thank you for all of your postings. The make model and mileage of the car was not relevant to my original question. The real issue is that the other driver acknowledges our innocence but his insurer will not enter discussions with us. If we were to have taken our car to a dealer prior to the accident likeli it is true that he would have offered a similar figure to the insurers. That was not our intention.
The situation we are left with is that we will be at a loss of around £1000 due to the other drivers negligence. That is not how it should be.0
