Options
I tried to do the usual monthly dd from Halifax Reward account into Tesco bank but get the message that this linked account does not support dd (which is incorrect as I've been doing this monthly). Does anyone else get this message? thanks ed

How/ where / from whom or what did you get this message? Precisely what did the message say?

How did you "try to do the usual DD from Halifax Reward into Tesco bank"?

Good to hear its working ok between Halifax and Tesco Bank re DD's.

I use my Tesco Internet savings and the Tesco easy access savings accounts to service the 2 DD requirement for the Santander 123 accounts.

Ive only recently set up my Halifax Reward account and was going to use the Tesco's accounts for the 2 DD's, after reading your OP I thought oh no back to the drawing board but I'm glad it was a false alarm for you with the warning coming up and all is working fine now.

  • Sadly from February 2014 Tesco will stop their direct debit service to get money from other accounts.
This is probably because banks like santander and halifax have complained that people are using tesco to get around the dd requirements of those banks.

Somebody else claimed that today but later corrected it and said the Tesco letter was about debit cards, not direct debits. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4838680

If you have different information, perhaps you could provide the detailed text and source for this information?

If you are referring to the letter you received from Tesco Bank and if its the same one I got from them today, it says:
From 15th February 2014, you will no longer be able to fund your savings Account by debit card. Any payments that are attempted via this method will be rejected and will not proceed.

This will not effect any other aspects of your Account and you can continue to use all other funding methods outlined in your Terms and Conditions.

Tesco Bank are stopping you funding your account by debit card (from 15-02-14), they are not stopping you from collecting funds via direct debit from other accounts.

I got two letters yesterday for my two Tesco account to say accounts can no longer be funded with a debit card. Nothing about DDs.
