Doshwaster - read my comments about lumens - have a google - if you think those LEDs you bought are brighter than 50W halogens, you need your eyes tested, or there was something wrong with your halogens. Colour temp can make people think some things are brighter than others, but those LEDs are just nowhere near.

OK thought I'd post this in here as it would require the least explanation. Please read the posts above from elstimpo and myself. He has given me a discount code for any forum users to use on HIS website. I don't think forum rules allow him to post them. I post them as a customer of his at least twice, for a couple of different products, that I am very happy with. I don't think that breaks any rules. Please let me know here or via PM if it causes any problems.
Even more than this, his honest, rather than boastful claims about LED's ability to replace other bulbs, in here and on his site, might actually lose him some sales.
Of course, ask here if you need any advice.

    Enter the code:

at checkout for any of the below products.

I ordered a couple of bulbs from elstimpo a few days back after reading this helpful thread. My two were approx. a tenner each, which I hope proves a wise investment. It's a minefield out there but I figure it's worth a go in this case. May well get some more and hopefully get the chance for a discount next time! :).

    thanks for the steer,

  • I have a floor lamp with 5 G4 capsules, it is used a lot, is there any led type bulb that would replace, and are they any good?

They're tiny little things. A quick Google says there are some, but I don't know whether they'll be as bright as what you have. Can you take one out and read it and see if it says a wattage?

Hi, thanks, 3 of them are 10w and 2 are 20w , I think they are halogen, will they be using a lot of electricity ? We have them lit most of the day right now.
  • 70W when they are on ( 3 x 10W and 2x 20W) , so if you have them on say 12/13hrs they will be using nearly 1 kw of electricity which may be around 13p or so or around £4 per month, so yes quite a lot if on all the time just for one light.

Problem is using LED replacements for something like this would be expensive first off as you need 5 bulbs

Probably cheapest solution is to turn it off when you don't need it?

I bought a lot of LED bulbs for Amazon, and you can also find some nice LED bulbs from the websites of some good brands, like Philips or Lighting Ever. I find the last one on Amazon too.
Just Google them, you will find the website and just be satisfied with those nice LED products. :)

But do bear in mind the need for a realistic guarantee period - two years at the very least, three or more much better. The break even period on these expensive little things is so long, particularly if you don't have them on for more than a couple of hours a day, that a one year guarantee is just silly.

I am also after some G4 LEDs for my kitchen. I have 12v halogen but all but one have blown. They are under cupboard lighting. Any recommendations guys? I know they aren't cheap but l do want them to last, so don't mind investing.

I got cree g4's and an led driver from ledhut at the beginning of summer, used in the livingroom - they're excellent.

Can't see them at LEDhut, but lightrabbit sell them:

Was talking to a collegue last week about them as he's looking for leds in the same circumstance as you, I suggested it may be worth looking at the strip lighting as it can be cut to the required length and I beleive should give a better light spread.

    Strip lighting

I've not tried them myself but I'm gonna be doing my kitchen soon and will be going for that option I think.
