Help with a small present for 13 year old girl

Options
Hi all

My son has been invited to a birthday party for a girl in his class at school. He wants to take a present but doesnt know her well enough to know what she would like. Its all boys in our family so I am a bit stuck as well.

Can anyone help with ideas for a present up to about £10 that most 13 year old girls would like? Or am I better off just putting cash in the card?

Thank you

They're probably all image obsessed at that age. Nail polish is usually a nice present and not too contentious. Something like this...

A purse with a gift card inside? I agree that nail polish is a good idea as well.

  • I have a 13 year old girl. Buying stocking fillers recently and I got her nail polish from Primark for £2 or £2.50. There are 4 in the pack and one is glittery. They had packs with various colours. I also got her a box with several eyeshadows in it, also round the £2 mark.

They also had some lovely scarves and hats.

There are really cute handwarmers about - you know the ones with the gel packs that heat up. My daughter takes those with her when she's down the town with her mates so practical and cute. Saw lovely ones in poundstretcher but can't remember the price.

There are also loads of smelly gifts about and they are always appreciated.

What about nivea/vaseline? There are some lovely tins about with 3/4 vaselines or nivea in them. I know Tesco have them but again not sure of price.

Lastly (thank goodness I hear your say) what about a purse. New Look have some nice ones. There is one with a moustache on it (don't get it myself but moustaches seem to be the rage!) for I think a fiver. They also have some bags for a tenner.

Check out Hollister or Jack Wills for socks - I know £10 for a pair of socks but she would at least wear them and they'd be greatfully recieve- she wouldn't spend £10 of her pocketmoney on a pair of socks so would appreciate them.

If you can the Hollister spray on offer that popular with girls.

Nail varnish I agree is a good one but she will probably get A LOT so the gift will 'get lost' with the others. You could make up a nail varnish hamper with polish, remover, cotton wool and buds if you wanted - girls always run out of remover :).
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Amazon giftcard, not all girls are sparkly preening princesses. She might want to buy a book or music or something.

My links are hit and miss so I'll give you the item number!
Argos "Color Institute Urban Nail Set" was £29.99 now £9.99 (438/9710) my daughter has her eye on it and she's 11 so maybe good for a 13 year old aswell.

All sparkly face/nail gloop I ever received were nicely thanked for then discretely funneled off to the charity shop.

I agree a book or music voucher might be a better idea :D

I was going to say nail varnish, too. In my experience (as a teacher at a girls' school) at that age even the girls who are not in the least bit 'girly' and don't wear make-up still seem to like painting their nails...not sure why. They may paint them black or khaki or navy rather than pink or sparkly, but they still seem to paint them! Or failing that, as others have said, an Amazon voucher would be a good bet , maybe with some chocolate if you want something to wrap up.

my DD is nearly 13 - you can't go wrong with money in a card for her birthday - then she can go into town and buy her own preferred brand of gloop :D.
