If anyone is having problems with yoghurt slopping all over the place, you could always make it into yoghurt jelly. Just dissolve some gelatine in a small amount of water and mix into the yoghurt and leave to set.0

Oh my, what has started here!! All I can see when I go to Tesco's is 'how can I make that Bento friendly?!' :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

Huge thanks to everyone on this thread - you have inspired me!!:T
I have bought two laptop lunchboxes - had a bit of a gulp at the price but then realised that it is significantly less than hot luches for two for a month. I preferred these as they seem to organise me much more than the Japanese boxes on ebay - who knows, I may progress to them.;)
My eldest (10 yrs) and I have been 'spotting' things that can go into the boxes, and are generally far more excited about this than we really should be - OH thinks we have finally flipped!!:rotfl:
I had an idea about making items for the boxes using a kids bakeware set - cup cakes etc will be just the right size. Lakeland have got some amazing cookie cutters which will do wonderful things to sandwiches. I've also seen heart shaped ice cube trays that I thought may be just the thing for jelly.:o
Thank you all once again,
Tilly
xxThanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0 -
Re chopped fruit browning - i use orange juice, the juice from a tin of pineapples or I cut an orange segment in half and rub that on each side of the slices of apple/pear to stop them browning.
I find lemon juice leaves it tasting of lemon.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Tilly, where did you get your laptop lunchboxes from?
My son has just informed me that he wants this as his first lunchbox

just made my kids a "bento style" lunch. just in chinese cartons as a tester before i decided whether to buy anything.
went down really well:D kids said it was much better than the usual sandwich, bag of crisps, yoghurt and piece of fruit lol plus, thinking about it, i managed to get away with using a lot less crisps (they had a few twiglets instead of a whole bag of crisps) and more fruit!!
maybe this is the way to go!!!November NSD's - 70 -

Ewwww, those 'fingers' are horrid!!!
Tillytrippet - I like the idea of jelly in heart shaped ice cube trays and I've got some star ones too. I use cookie cutters for shaped sandwiches and have found it's good to have a selection of large and small to avoid wasting bread.
I've got this on the brain now as I have decided dds old playdoh poys (mini ones) will be perfect for putting little bits in! The lids have animals on them and they are watertight - perfect methinks!0 -
Hi Jo,
Sorry I've taken so long to reply. I'm really useless at posting links, but the site is laptoplunches.co.uk. The box comes with a bag, bottle for water and a book full of ideas, so it is rally good value in the grand scheme of things - it just seemed such a lot when I clicked on the submit order button.
We went to Tesco today and found a big box of cookie cutters for £2.47 - really cheap in comparison to Lakeland. Much to my DH's disgust we've now got my 85yr old Ma in on it - her evening meal was ice cream cone shaped toast with pate!!
Poor DH - the only man in a house full of Bento mad women - ranging from 5 to 85! We did feel sorry for him so let him order Setanta for the match as the gods were playing at teatime!!
Take care,
Tilly

Well I'd mentioned the Simpson's box I saw on ebay earlier which is Bento 'style' but not proper authentic, ds asked if he could see it tonight as if I'd actually already bought it....so looks like I'm on ebay tonight then
I love all the ideas that people have come up with. Please keep posting your ideas cos I don't wanna spend a fortune on boxes and such and run out of ideas!!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
