Being the offspring of warring parents is very harmful .rise above it and be the bigger person.

This is a consumer rights board, it's not about saving money but standing up for your consumer rights against companies. I keep away from the moneysaving boards as I don't need to get involved in that scene.

However despite how much money you've got £200 is too small an amount to get the mother of your child in trouble with the police.

The forum is still MONEY SAVING EXPERT, a forum dedicated to money saving. To someone who cares about saving money - I repeat myself here - £200 is not petty.

It's not exactly him that will be getting her in trouble with the police, it was her own fault that she decided against paying her debt. She will have to live up to the consequences of her actions.

Like I said, if it's such a petty amount - you pay it for the lad.

Sorry you're mistaken. It's a consumer rights forum that sits on a moneysaving website. This forum is not dedicated to moneysaving as consumer rights aren't moneysaving they are simply the law...

I have no idea who the lad is and I have no intention of paying the debt of a person who would report the mother of his son to the police for the sake of £200. He does not inspire my sympathy.

Just checking, has the contract been stopped? In his shoes I'd make certain it was (no further debts accruing) then if possible just pay it off. Yes she gets away with it, but there's a son involved and sometimes biting your tongue is the best thing you can do. Life's unfair all the time, this might be a good time to take the moral high ground just for the boy's sake.

If nothing else, for a couple of hundred quid, trivial or significant amount, the work involved in any prosecution is going to commit more time, resources and money. Better to spend those with the son building up a relationship as opposed to trying to fight the mother who is probably not going to pay anyway.

Nope. Pretty sure my address bar still says http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/ which is a good enough confirmation for me that I'm still on money saving expert, and that I've not been re-directed to some consumer forum which you seem to suggest. Consumer rights is simply a sub-section to MSE forum - it's still the MS forum.

Well then if it's not petty enough for you to pay it, then I would suggest you quit making judgments as to whether it's petty enough for someone else paying it. Either way, he shouldn't have to pay for someone else's debt, regardless of who it is.

Hmm I am starting to suspect you may be a bit slow....

This is a consumer rights board it does not provide moneysaving tips, it provides consumer advice.

For such a trifling amount I would put the welfare of my son first. Obviously you wouldn't and would purse the mother of your son through the courts no matter what the amount owed!

Sinc he didn't report it until the payments stopped, he's not exactly helped his own position in disowning the debt.

    How else would he know?

    Seriously...

I'm not sure I want to spend any more of my Sunday evening explaining the most simple concept that anyone with a IQ above 10 should understand. But I'll say it again. This is a Money Saving forum, it should be pretty obvious (Have a look a top of this page). This may be a Consumer Rights section, but it's still a Money Saving forum. Not sure if I can dumb that down any more for you.

Again, what is it that you don't understand. £200 is a lot to some people, it's not for you to decide. And the fact still remains, why should he have to pay a debt that isn't his? It's not the father's responsibility to pick up after the mother, if she is that irresponsible that's her doing - not his.

But you said that because I thought £200 was a petty amount of money I had no business being on this forum as it's a moneysaving forum. Ignoring the obvious fact that even rich people can save money the fact is that this board does not offer moneysaving advice. It offers consumer rights advice that anybody can benefit from, not only people who are short of money.

Your problem is that you don't seem to understand that despite the name this website is not just about moneysaving. It covers a whole raft of different topics.

This would probably be better on the relationship forum. It's not a consumer issue.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
