Difference between Full HD and HD ready?

I have just bought a LG TV from Argos that was clearly advertised as Full HD. Setting it up none of the freeview HD channels appeared. The reviews are very encouraging for this model but on careful scrutiny one or two customers have discovered that the TV only comes with an SD tuner so the TV really is only capable of producing a HD picture from an external source. In other words as far as I can ascertain it is only "HD ready".
Anybody else think that this is mis-selling?

'Full HD' merely refers to the resolution of the picture, not what type of tuner the TV has. But, if the TV is labeled as Freeview HD and it only has an SD tuner then that would be mis-selling.0

The distinction between 'HD Ready' and 'Full HD' was made long before Freeview launched it's HD channels, which require an HD tuner.
You're not the first to be caught out by this, if it's any consolation. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Yes macman, agreed. The terms used are stupidly confusing.
So if anyone wants a Freeview HD TV, look for the Freeview HD logo on it. And if your unsure, just ask!0 -
If it's Full HD, shouldn't it have a HD tuner, otherwise I cannot see what the distinction is between the two.
I already own a LG TV that was advertised as HD ready. I cannot see any difference between the two.
If it's a question of being "caught out" this to my mind is mis-selling.0 -

Sorry to get technical, but -
'HD Ready' typically (but not exclusively) refers to devices that display a picture resolution at 720i/p or 1080i. 'Full HD' refers to a picture resolution which displays at 1080p.
None of the above tells the user if its a Freeview HD (DVB-T2) device or not. All the above merely refers to the resolution of the picture. Not what tuner it contains.
Told you it was complicated. But if your not happy, take it back.0 -

A monitor that did not have any tuner at all would still qualify as either 'HD Ready' or 'Full HD'. As explained above, the description is determined by the resolution, not by the built-in tuner.
Your reasoning has no logic: if 'Full HD' means an HD tuner, what does 'HD Ready' then mean?
Argos and LG have correctly described the TV, which has a 1080i resolution. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Now its my turn to be confused... I thought 'Full HD' only referred to monitors that output 1080p and not i.0

Typo, my mistake. If the OP wasn't confused before, they will be now!No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thunder, what is the model of TV you bought?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0
