Virgin Media - Deposit query

Hi All,

I've had my Virgin Media account at home for almost 4 years - Complete package - TV, Landline and B/Band.

When i opened the account I was asked for a deposit as there was no existing VM at the address, I was forced to pay £150 as a deposit against payment default. Since the account was opened I've not missed a single payment and have a Direct debit set up.

Realistically can't see me moving, from VM, as we are unable to get Sky services (dish not allowed) and even getting an aerial fitted for freeview is difficult due to height issues at my flat.

How long is VM 'allowed' to keep my deposit? Have thought of cancelling the account and setting up a 'new' set of services through Virgin to force them to return my deposit?

Have tried to ring VM but have been told I need a specific department "who will call me back as they don't accept incoming calls" - obviously this never happens!

Any help welcome, Am peeved off with their shoddy customer service and to be honest I can't afford for them to keep my money 'just in case' anything goes wrong.

Sorry for the long story but really trying to organise my finances and it's money that can be put to better use!

Thanks in advance :o

One year would be reasonable. Four years is absurd. Forget phoning: write to them using RD, heading it 'complaint'. The clock is then ticking.

Before complaining, it might be better to check your old bills! The deposit is often credited automatically to the account after the relevant period is complete, meaning one or two bills would not require ANY payment whatsoever as the deposit residual was used to fund this.
