To be honest, I think noise-cancelling is more of a 'would like if possible' rather than a 'need' as he's currently using a cheap pair designed for Skype (complete with microphone!) since his last ones broke without warning, and they definitely aren't noise-cancelling.

I was looking at the Sennheiser RS 180s, but the reviews seem to say that they are prone to a fault where they won't charge, and there's a design flaw whereby the volume buttons are next to the on/off buttons on the headphones. But I suppose this could just be a few people finding fault, rather than an overall bad product.

He generally uses spotify on his pc, as I'm not sure that the office has wi-fi that he could use with his phone, but thanks for the suggestion.

ETA: McKneff do you know which Philips you bought? I've not really seen many during my searches, but I'm open to any option that might work!

They probably are defunct in the shops now, it was probably even more than the 5 years I said. But they look very similar to the Panasonic ones in the link above. Price seems reasonable too. I would be very pleased if someone bought me them for Christmas lol.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

The Panasonic set are one of the first pairs I had my eye on as they are so much more reasonably priced! But I'm confused about whether they are wireless or not? The first photo on that link seems to imply that they are, but then there's a photo of a cable further down the page.

    Panasonic WF950 Wireless On-Ear Headphones - Silver. £49.99 Was £74.99 Save 1/3 rating-4_6.gif (134)

I have these ^ and they work well. (on my 2nd year) Charge-up on the base when not in use and are comfortable.
Also they work whilst in another room.

(be wary of cheaper ones as they might be infa-red, same room only)

    !

I have a RS-180 never had a problem with the charging.

the on/off button is slightly annoying but not massively so because I never use the volume control on the thing.

However for a work environment I would recommend the RS-170 over the 180, the reason is the 180 is a open cup design this tends to bleed sound outside of the headset and an anoy other people (but gives clearer sound quality), the 170 is a closed cup design so it bleeds less sound and you get a bit more bass as well, plus its as bit cheaper.

I've listened to both the sound quality is really good, they utilise a uncompressed transmission stream so there's no degradation from the wireless transmission.

Thanks to all who gave such helpful advice, it's greatly appreciated! I've decided to go for the Panasonic set on the Argos deal (and found a £20 voucher I'd forgotten about, which made them only £30 :T). If its not quite what he wants, or if he wants something higher-spec, then we can look at the Sennheiser RS170s instead at a later date. Thanks again, you're all brilliant :D
