Pet free smoke free home

Thank you for looking from a pet free smoke free home

This has always been on all my listings - now under intense pressure to get a dog - but very nervous of losing the pet free home bit!
Personally I would never buy an item from a smokers home.
But would owning a dog put buyers off?
I have received items in the past covered in dog/cat hair which was very annoying so I would have to make sure that the dog would not go into my office or anywhere near the stock...

Personally speaking it wouldn't put me off and I don't look for pet free when buying anyway.
But just make sure you keep your stock away from any pets as I wouldn't like anything I bought to be covered in pet hair or any other yukky stuff.

Sadly I don't have a dog at present but consider myself to be pet less rather than pet free! :(

Go ahead and get that dog. (I will as soon as working hour permit me to care for it properly) I'm sure you'll keep your stock in a clean place away from the dog so it will be fine. Then you can put on your listing that its kept in pet free environment.

    good luck! :)
  • Dog fur does get everywhere, but with most things you can just brush them off. As above just keep the dog away from stock or anything you're highly likely to sell in the future. For anything else, chances are you can brush the fur off or wash the item and it's probably not something you want the dog to go near anyway so it's not likely to get completely covered in fur.

I doubt most people pay any attention to whether it's from a pet free home, unless for medical reasons (in which case I imagine you'd either avoid used items on ebay or double check with the seller first).

You can get dogs where their fur doesn't fall out though (such as a poodle).

Have a dog and run a business from home. Quite often sell clothes. Never had a problem. Clothes kept well away from dog during sale and after. Don't even put smoke free home (all non-smokers) and that doesn't seem to put people off either. I think buyers just assume that when you buy clothes, sellers will have the decency to make sure it doesn't stink of smoke and covered in dog hair.
  • For me, this IS a big deal.

I have allergies and asthma, so do my very best only to buy from pet and smoke free homes on ebay. I would only break this rule if it was something I REALLY wanted that was extremely easy to wash, and even then I would look for a seller with excellent feedback.

I don't think smokers and pet owners often realise how much items may smell if they are kept in an environment with pets or smoking. And it's not the fur per se that triggers asthma in people with pet allergies. It is the "dander", i.e. the tiny flakes of animal skin that hang in the air and attach themselves to anything around.

Of course if you want a dog, you should get one - but I don't think you should assume that it won't have any effect on your ebay sales.
  • I am allergic to dogs (sneezing, blood shot itchy eyes and a rash where i came in contact with the dog).

However, this wouldn't stop me at all from buying from a home with dogs.

I should be able to clean the item myself so It wouldn't personally bother me.

Doesn't stop me visiting family and friends who have dogs so wont stop me from buying items on ebay.

    :)

to be perfectly honest i usually take it with a pinch of salt when people say its from pet and smoke free zone, if what they said was true 99% of sellers on e-bay don't smoke or have a pet of any kind

    Depends what I am buying...
But try not putting it and see how many enquiries you get. I predict less than 10 a year.
  • Not important at all. I've had things turn up smelling of alcohol and vomit (really!) so it didn't really matter if it was from a pet / smoke free home or not.

If you are precious about it then buy new, but with anything on ebay there is an element of risk.

Lots of people buy things to sell so you'd have no idea if they come from a pet free smoke free home. I just bung clothing in washer and tumble dryer.
  • I too have severe allergies in my family. I have 2 non moulting Toy Poodles and I do state this on my listing as I think it fair to be honest.
I also state that my items are from a non smoking home as I have bought things on Ebay before and had to bin them as even after washing as some things still smelt.
I sell for my Mom sometimes who smoked up until a year ago and I have to mention that it comes from a smokers home as it still smells strongly of smoke. I keep her items up the shed until listings end...
I would never dream of buying from a smoker again. Please dont take offence 'smokers' each to their own but I am protecting my kids too ;-)
Take off the statements and see how many people ask if your items come from a pet smoke free home...I agree have you pooch just keep the items you are selling away from him/her ...;-)
