Can I use someone else's SIM to unlock my iPhone?
Options
I have an iPhone 4 currently on giff gaff but want to go to t mobile (I managed to get one of the free £8pm sims), but my phone is locked to O2. With a PAYG o2 SIM this will cost me £15 (plus another £1 as I'll have to register a new SIM (can't find my old one) and make a chargeable call before they can unlock it).
However, unlocking is free for pay monthly customers. My husband is a pay monthly O2 customer, would it be possible to put his SIM in my phone to request the unlock?
Thank you in advance.

It's some time since I got my partners phone unlocked from O2 but the request process was done online and not from the phone.
I suggest you logon to their site and follow the process where it will request your phone IMEI number and your mobile number (which would be your husbands). You (i.e. he, as it will be his phone number) will eventually get an sms with an unlock code. I can't see you have anything to lose by trying.0 -
For iPhones it isn't an unlock code by text, the unlock is via iTunes. This used to require a physical connection to the computer but I believe now does not using the latest versions of iOS.0

No, a SIM swap will not work as they'll know the replacement SIM isn't used in an iPhone and will not trigger the process.
It would look as if you were possibly laundering the handset using any old SIM on O2.0
