While the shop hasn't broken the law, if it was the shops policy to inform you of all the terms and conditions, and they didn't, you may appeal to their sense of fair play.20% of £100 is £20.

Can you not pay in full then immediately return the item?? As long as they allow returns that is.
  • Problem resolved! I got £40 of my £50 back. £10 was held as a handling fee which I believe is more than fair. The supervisor was going to the high street store in question to buy 2 of these sets as gifts! Thankyou to everyone who was of help. I'm a widow with 3 kids who has decided to go back to uni to create a better life for my family so the pennies are tight. Happy Christmas to you all 🎅🎄🎁

The name of the shop is irrelevant as it's a small local privately owned shop. What difference would it make to my query?! As for your capitalised MUST .... Were you in the shop with me?! No!
I KNOW that no terms were given to me, the only stipulation was 20% was a deposit. I have asked friends and there is definitely no signs/posters/beacons indicating terms of the club. I've also checked my receipt and again nothing.
Your attitude is quite alarming actually. I posted a query not expecting to be spoke to in such a manner
So is your grammar. You meant spoken, foreseen, and fare, not spoke, foresaw, and fair. I hope that when you are a lawyer you will not draw up contracts with such sloppy English.

Glad your problem has been resolved nonetheless.

As in the shop can charge a fee like toys r us do.

Providing that "fee" is a genuine pre-estimate of loss then yes they can. If it could be too high in some cases, then it will likely still be viewed as a unfair term/financial penalty.

But that wasnt what my post was about. Earlier you said they couldnt cancel the contract. A contract can always be cancelled. Just not always free of charge.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Did I at any time say I was doing a law degree in order to pursue a career as a lawyer?! You'll find I didn't! I am in my second year and I am proud to say I have achieved firsts in every module.
Not that I need to explain myself to the grammar police; but this is an online forum and if you trawl posts looking for grammatical errors you need to get out more!

Totally unnecessary. It adds nothing to the discussion whatsoever.

Glad you got it sorted OP.

Well done, just prove ops point. Frankly the attitude of a small number of people in this thread has been very poor, yours especially!
  • Thank you Country Cousin and arcon5. I only registered on this site on Friday but I don't think I'll ever post on here again.
