Madasafish - Plusnet

I've been with Madasafish for the last six years, never had a problem, been pleased with their customer service, and have negotiated a decent loyalty discount each year that has kept them very cost effective.

So, it's time for this year's loyalty discount conversation, and I've just been told that they don't offer discounts anymore because they are 'encouraging' their customers to move over to Plusnet (who now own Madasafish).

The Plusnet offer is £21.47 per month - phone and unlimited broadband, but if I'm changing provider I thought I'd have a look-see at what else is out there. Tesco are offering what appears to be pretty much the same package at £15.32 per month.

To be honest, for an extra £6 I'm happier to pay for better service. But will I be getting it?

I don't understand the technicalities at all, if I transfer to Plusnet, does that mean that my existing Madasafish 'things' still run, with the only difference being that my bill has a Plusnet heading? Or does everything completely transfer to a completely different service provider?

If the latter, any views on which way to go Plusnet or Tesco?

Thanks all.

  • A lot depends on the deal you do with Plusnet.

When I changed over a couple of years ago I got to keep my madasafish email account & domain hosting for free. However, when I changed someone else over 6 months ago they had to pay to keep it (only £1.50 a month though).

Do you need the unlimited internet or will the basic account(I think it's 10 gb per month) do for you? If that's enough then ask them to do a deal on the price for that.

As for the service - plusnet use exactly the same staff as maaf so the service you receive will be the same.

I currently have 5gb broadband, and to my certain knowledge have only ever gone over that twice in six years, so the whole 'unlimited' thing that they're selling me is definitely not necessary. Interestingly though, they didn't tell me there was an option, so thanks for the tip - I'll go back and see how that changes things.

To be honest, I don't really need the madasafish email account either (I only use it for junk mail that I don't want clogging up my 'proper' email account), and I have never used their domain, so I'm happy to let both of them go. My needs are very simple - reliable broadband. I don't even need the landline really, although I accept that I have to have it.

    Thanks for your advice.

Well, I've just 'done the deal' so thought I'd let you know that:

    - Keeping the madasfish email account seems to depend on the length of time you've been with them. I've been with them for almost seven years, so get to keep it free of charge. Maybe the second conversion you did hadn't been with them as long as you had?

    - They do a 10GB broadband package, but that currently isn't on special offer, so the unlimited package actually works out cheaper. I guess I'll have to change package at the end of Year One when that will undoubtedly change!

    Thanks again for your advice.
