    How hot do the shades get ?
    Can you comfortably touch them with your fingers ?

    Have you returned any of the dead bulbs for a refund ?
    plus - if they are uplighters - I am assuming that the bulbs are the "wrong way up" - ie not hung ?
    This could be a reason - are bulbs designed to be run the other way up ?
