Lights keep failing

We live in a 1950's semi with a ELCB board and presumably relatively modern wiring...
About 2 months ago - our bedroom light failed - I changed the bulb - no effect (the bulb was still OK) - Then, as quickly as it failed, it started working again (and has done ever since)
This morning - the same thing happened to our bathroom light - I have checked the bulb and it is OK
(The circuit has not tripped)
Any suggestions as to what is going on ?

Have you put up any light fitments or had them put up? You have a loose wire somewhere, but not necessarily in the fitments where you saw the symptoms

It is a bayonet Phillips low energy bulb - that, up until this morning has worked for at least 3 years - and still does in another lamp ..

Ah OK - it might be the bulb holder then - the bits that hold the bayonet in place sometimes become damaged and don't hold the bulb in properly.. If it looks like this - it's quite simple to change - just make sure you turn off the lighting circuits at the fuse board first

Could this be caused by heat ?
If the wall lights have small shades - lack of air circulation could cause premature failure of bulbs ?
