Gledhill pulsacoil A class water heater

Hi,

My daughter has just moved into a flat that has the above mentioned water heater. The landlord just said to turn the unit on 30 minutes before she wants hot water and then turn it off.

Having looked around the net I don't think this is the best way to run it- but to leave it connected all the time and it stores up energy overnight on economy 7.

I have tried for 3 days to get through to Scottish Power with no joy!!! so am not sure if she is on Economy 7-it is a prepaid meter with only 1 unit price quoted on the letter telling her about the price increase.

Does anyone know if it would still be cheaper to leave it on all the time?

Many thanks

  • These units are designed to operate on off-peak electricity, with a boost facility if you run low on hot water during the day. I have one in my apartment.
It costs me about 50p a day for hot water, which is what it was costing me for gas water heating in my last house.
These Gledhill units are very efficient (but not the most reliable !!) and deliver a lot more hot water than a conventional hot water (tanked) system.

I can't really answer your main question - I'm afraid it is a bit like "how long is a piece of string"....................it depends..
