Another thought just occurred to me.

easyJet have a handy policy. If you're early for your flight, and you're on the return portion of a return ticket, they'll let you standby on an earlier flight for free. BA don't do this.

It's a small thing, but you might find it very useful if you're trying to get away on a Friday evening. Book a flight you'll comfortably make, but if you can get the the airport earlier, you get home quicker.

Section 9.1.5 of the T&Cs. (You'd need to book your flights as a GLA-LON-GLA return for this to work on the northbound flights.)

Thanks for all the responses folks. Looking into getting things booked in bulk as far advance as possible to minimise the prices.
