Oh and NO dont use your card to shop - just to be on the safe side if nothing else.

We haver Spyware on our server at work, and I had to use PayPal - I didn't know the risk of Spyware, so went ahead and used it. Now my credit card company are investigating £140 taking without authorisation through PayPal - probably from this incident.

    Be safe don't shop!

The Microsoft website allows you to download a very effective spyware program for free. It got rid of all my problems and is continusly up-dated to protect me. Give it a go it is 100% safe.

Spyware Blaster prevents installation of many problems.

There are a couple of tricks used by these persistent nuisances. Some programs run hidden in memory, so that even though you delete them from the disk, they reload and resave themselves. Others hide in the hidden Temporary Internet Files folders. I don't know which sort this is, and I'm sure there are other masking tactics.

It may be a bit of both; that something in the TIF is calling the product that reloads this from the net. Wait for other comments , but if you want to totally clear TIF, open the Temporary Internet Files folder, add this subfolder to the address bar and open

    \Content.IE5 - nb IE5 even for IE6

you see subfolders (multiple of four of them) and Index.dat file

If you drag the Index file into the Secure Shredder tool in Spybot S&D, then press 'Chop it away' then restart the computer, new empty folders will be created.

Alternatively, open each of those folders in turn and delete the contents. The trouble with this is, something might be re-stored there when you switch off.

I don't know if this helps for this particular problem, so see what others say as well.

Hi again! Well, after several trials I seem to have got rid of the alien... I did not run it is safe mode, but for the time being that's done with.... PC is extremely slow, however, and I will probably have to wipe it clean and reinstall everything at some point...
    Thanks indeed to eveybody!
Mr Warren, the Microsoft program you mention is the same one Foxy recommended?
Andy: I am "IT challenged", unfortunately, it is very difficult for me to follow your type of advice ... but I'll give it a try! And by the way, if anybody can recommend a computer course that is not for "beginners" nor for "software experts" (the two types I always find, non of which applies to me...) I'm all ears. So far, I have learnt by asking around, and trial and error....
