I have just bought a F6500 series 6 Samsung smart TV but i just can not get the settings just right.
for some reason when there are fast moving pictures on screen i get a flicker and i can not seem to stop it from doing it.
i have all the energy saving settings on it turned off like dimming and the Eco sensor but it still does it.
is that a know problem with LED TV,s or is it something to do with the settings.
it seems to do it when it goes from one picture to another picture on screen.
i have changed the HDMI cable and its not that as still does it.
we have a Virgin media box but dont think its that.
any ideas please.

How is the picture when using its built in tuner?
LEDs do suffer from motion smearing, though a lot less than LCD/LEDs used to, but I wouldnt describe it as flickering. First of all do a firmware update and factory reset and see if that helps. Secondly, turn off all the additional processing, though factory settings normally have these fairly low.
Is this a new TV? Did you test one in the store before buying? Never heard problems with LEDs but with some projectors people are sensitive to certain methods of project and can cause them to see effects or feel nauseous. If resetting it doesnt work then take it back to the shop for them to deal with it. Setting changes should refine the picture to your tastes not cause actual problems.0 -
Not sure you've described it extremely well (it's hard to describe!) but it sounds like you've got some rubbish 'features' turned on as in the post above. Look out for things along the lines of smooth motion, 100Hz, film mode (not the same as Cinema colour/brightness settings) etc. Look through the menus for stuff like this, and tell us what anything is that you can't work out...0

As far as i can see i have turned everything off that should be off and yes it is hard to describe the problem.
Film mode is off and all the energy saving things are all off as well and the TV is brand new.
how would i see if it needs a update as never done that before?
i have Picture mode on standard and other settings are set as
Dynamic contrast Low
black tone off
Motion lighting off
Digital clean view off
MPEG noise filter off
film mode off
motion plus off
black optimiser off
LED clear motion off
so got what i can turn off as off.0 -
So this is being viewed from a Virgin TiVo box? Or one of the older ones? Test on the internal tuner too (on an HD channel). Each source might have separate settings too so check that.
What you've posted above looks good, looks like you've caught anything that's interfering with the picture. You might want to try turning dynamic contrast off completely while we're testing stuff.
With all the gimmicks off, have a go at calibrating the TV. If you can plug a computer in, or have some way of getting YouTube on the TV, find the BBCHD test card on it and load it. The important part really is the black and white gradient - you want to get your contrast and brightness right. Make it so that you can just about see the difference between the black and the one next to it. That should give you good basic levels.
Now go and watch the TV and see if you have the same effects still.0 -
Is the flicker the whole screen or does it look like half the screen is different?
What are you using as an input? terrestrial or Satellite feed?
Just a thought...
If it's half the screen then it's called "tearing". It's because the screen is updating at a different speed than the input signal. UK broadcasts can run at 50Hz and the screen can sometimes be set at 60Hz and in fast action scenes the tv is trying to fill the missing 10Hz by repeating frames it's just shown. This causes a noticeable split in the image on the screen.
If it's been set to automatic the TV should be able to automatically change the refresh rate to the signal it's receiving.Laters

its a Tivo box that we use.
will look for the BBCHD test card as can get youtube on the TV and see what that is like.0 -

no i would not say its half of the screen.
its a hard one to explain but it does it a lot when watching ADS and does it a lot when it goes from one ad to the next ad and also when say watching a show and it goes from one screen to another.
it is as if the Tv cant keep up with and it looks like leaves a flicker of the previous scene for a second when it cuts during a scene.0 -
Can you check the TiVo settings to see what it's outputting?
To me it does sound a little bit like you are describing "tearing".
(i.e. it's not got enough image data as it's showing it too fast so it repeats frames to pad out the missing bits and you notice it when the scene changes drastically).Laters

is there anyway to shove the tearing?0 -
So if the screen goes black, there'll still be a bit of an image? I would call this ghosting. Have a look on youtube and see if anyone has posted examples of this.
Tearing, as above, is very common on computer games if you're familiar with them, when either the graphics card or the TV's processor, can't keep up with the fast movement. Think of first person shooters, and turning round quickly, you would notice something not quite move at the same speed as other stuff - it has 'torn'.
If it's ghosting I'm not sure what can be done - it may happen only when the TV has just been switched on, and maybe the screen behaves better when it has warmed up.0
