Bit confused ... Call from a company who I thought was O2
Options
Ok I am very very careful about scams etc but think I've been a bit caught out
Had a call on my mobile saying that now that my O2 contract was about to expire (which it is) they could offer me an upgrade. I assumed it was O2 and went ahead and ordered an iphone 5s at £42 per month. I then had a text confirming my order. At no point did I give any bank details etc.
However, having reconsidered I decided that an iphone 4 at £22 per month would be much more sensible so I tried to call back the number. However it just goes through to voicemail. All a bit odd I think. Rang O2 and they said its definitely nothing to do with them.
They said that the new phone will be sent to me within 5 working days but I haven't given them any bank details. They DID know however what I was paying currently and exactly what my current contract covered, ie the amount of minutes, texts and internet I had??
Very confused! I've called back and left a message saying I want to cancel the contract and I won't accept delivery of the phone.

have you tried googling the phone number, that usually tells you who they are.0

Did you take the original contract through a 3rd party like CPW or similar? It's not just about the money0

As long as you do not accept delivery, you are protected from an 'upgrade' - however I would ask O2 why your contract details were known by a 3rd party and to watch for any attempt to amend or upgrade your account.
Forewarned is forearmed - and if you do it by phone, rather than write - record the call!0 -
This happened to my mum about 18 months ago. She 'upgraded' after a phone call from someone who said he was calling from o2. Turns out he just opened another contract for her. She ended up with two contracts. Took her ages to sort it out."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
