Three MiFi

Sorry but I can't post a link as a newbie.

Someone explained mifi to me and it's saved us a fortune. For years we have used dongles as we have no landline.
Vodafone have increased their prices on dongles recently and it's now £20 every 30 days for 3gb.
I have always wanted a tablet but never thought I could have one because until someone explained mi fi.
Yesterday we purchased a Hauwei E5220 mifi device from Currys on a 24 month contract = 15gb for £18.99 per month and free device. I'm thrilled. Not only have we got extra gb but have saved £21 per month and have asked Santa for a HUDL lol:j:j:j

I've just discovered Mifi too...but I'm interested in one on a pay as u go basis as it would only be used by the kids in the car for long journeys. Any ideas?
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

3UK provide the most cost effective rates however you need to ensure you are within their coverage area. See three.co.uk. Further, buy your dongle or MiFi device second hand, and a data only PAYG SIM from that well known auction site. I bought an annual (12Gb) sim for £52, saving £25 off the retail price.

The Vodafone method in the link (post 7) is a good idea. I wouldn't bother with Ovivo - ad supported and speeds not great.

If you get a 3 MiFi, get it unlocked. You can get instructions on the internet easily (search for "unlock Huawei E585"); you need to download a couple of bits of software but it is straightforward.

Then you will be able to use any data SIM in the MiFi, whether a 3 one, a Vodafone one or any other. After I unlocked mine I took it away with me to Germany, got a local data SIM and used that in it with no problems.

Post 7 refers to T-Mobile AKA EE/Orange not Vodafone.

Ovivo is on the Vodafone network, so speeds would be whatever you get on Vodafone and like all are dependent on local area coverage.

For the £20 one off cost for getting 1Gb data every month onwards seems to be a reasonable deal - OK so there are ads, so for the first year the cost per month is £20/12 =£1.66 , use it for 2 years = £20/24 =83p per month.......

If you are a thrifty data user and like Three's data speed then consider the £20-ish 3GB for 90 days Three SIMs (Argos, Amazon, Ebay). Or put a Samba SIM in which piggybacks on Three. You can do ad hoc topups on Samba e.g £3.50 for 250MB, £5 for 500MB, £9 for 1GB (always expiring after 30 days). For an emergency topup , view some Samba ads which might give you 15MB to do Email, browse some Web pages
